My first baby of the year.....A SS chick, naturally.

They may have single combs, but the hens combs are small enough the cold never seems to bother them, and once the rooster's comb is rounded by the frost they seem to do fine too....They are by far my friendliest and most productive girls.

Based on feet size....this one could be a He... Which is fine as I need a him for the shows this fall.

It was -41 at 9 AM here. It was -39 at 7:30 and kept dropping until about 9AM. I don't know windchills for sure but DH said for our town it was -55F. Pretty cold. The coop was about -15 when I went down there this morning. I reloaded the warm water (found my electrolytes, too) around 2Pm. It was -20F. The coop was 5 above. Lamp and flat panel both going in there. Poor girls.

We have a little button buck that has been raiding my red willow and balsam decor outside. (which is fine now) But Last night I did give him a small portion of sunflower seeds and this morning and this evening too. His Momma must have smelled BOSS on his breath because she came with tonight. I've got a video...but it's still uploading to youtube. Horribly slow. Youtube. We still need to use youtube for this site for video right? or has there been an upgrade since then. I should try my app.
