Surviving Minnesota!

It was cold yesterday, below zero and the windchill was at -40 when I got up. Yesterday I had to go to town, scattered ice all the way there and two different spots had a couple miles of pure ice. Hoping the weather forecast is lying and we get some better temperstured soon.
I candled eggs again and I am down to 11. The two 3 week old chicks need to go out next weekend, they will be just short of a month then. Not sure where I am to put them. The only place warm enough is full of my younger sisters rabbits, who are downright trouble makers. I may see if I can put them in the school house, as it has a fireplace in it, or I might have to tell my sister that a couple of those rabbits need to go outside already.
The layers will need their water refilled soon, I just don't want to have to bucket 50+ gallons from the other tank. Hopefully we can find out what is up with the line on our main tank this summer, it would be nice to have it stop freezing every winter...

The amount of snow in our lot and front pasture this year is awful.. Cattle couldn’t make it up to water yesterday. One tried and almost got stuck in a drift that was up to her back... We are expecting our first calves in 3-4 weeks.. It’s going to be a wet mess... Gonna have to spend a lot of time making sure new calves don’t freeze or drown if the snow melts... Will make for a good hay crop this spring at least..

Cold today... -4 (which SOUNDS warm, but is not—not when you factor in the wind.) I am sick and it is DH’s fault since he caught it first, from the phlebotomist. :( We were all the way to the main road when he decided he couldn’t possibly ride in the same vehicle with me so I am back at home texting grocery requests to him. He pretended he was worried about my health . Nope. Not buyin’ it.

Anyhow the cows are in the feeder and I am pretending not to see. I guess if they poop in there it will freeze instantly anyhow. This is one of the perps. The other one ran away. The white cow is my good little angel. She does not get in the feeder ever. I am not going to eat her.

This is what I’ve been up to, mostly (aside from chasing bad cows out of the feeder):

I also fed them all and watered them, but this above is warmer work. I think it needs a little tweaking, which I’ll do when the coughing lets up. :sick

I can eat the white cow so you don't have too!

My mom came to help me dig my poor poultry out of this mess this morning before we went to work. Made it through the blizzard yesterday and another 10 inches since Sat. I'm starting to run out of room to pile this once I get it out of the chain link. I don't ever remember having this type of snow, at least not since I was pretty young. I've lived at this house 4 years now, and I've never had it drift in front of this door. My dog thought it was pretty cool he could watch from above  Living in the southern most part of the state has been doing me no good this year!
