Surviving Minnesota!

Cindy....get a few turkey eggs from Ralphie for your broody!!

I would love to have some of Ralphie’s surplus turkey eggs if I trusted my untried little gal to persist or the freezing journey not to kill. Maybe I’ll get a couple farm store chicks if she’s still sitting on fake eggs by the time they arrive. I don’t really care right now whether she lays. I cannot eat a dozen eggs a day, and DH isn’t helping me out. He thinks factory-farm eggs are safer. :thIt’s lucky he’s so cute.

There is no rule saying the cute ones must be smart...I being the only true exception...

And even I have my moments, speaking of unsmart,, my luck ran out today.

I gathered eggs, I had one chicken egg, a precious Cream legbar egg, and a half dozen or so turkey eggs. Some of the turkey eggs were frozen. I wanted to make sure the legbar egg made it safely to the house and to warm it up as soon as possible as it felt cold. I placed it in my right breast pocket of my jacket.

Then made a last minuted check of the birds and gave the amazing breaking cat some water. (and her pieces too)...then I grabbed the egg bucket and headed out the door...

The door was not opening very wide, it is a sliding shed door. So I leaned heavily against the door and pushed. The door moved and I heard a popping sound in my pocket. The egg had not froze, it would have been good in the bucket......

In my defense, there was a good 30-45 seconds from the time I put the egg in my pocket and the time I forgot it was there and leaned into the door...

I am almost as old as Jerry and EJB so I do deserve a little leeway on being forgetful now and then...

Pretty sure it was not me who made that kind of offer. The only offers I make are....”you do realize I know there is feeder auction on Thursday....if you are not home before then I will ensure they have all size lots filled to capacity!” See my offers are more subtle.

Maybe you forgot you made the offer to us?

You have both lost your minds. I believe it was MNchickmom who made that offer.
I am positive that MNchickmom didn’t make that offer unless she has another barn that I’m not aware of. Our, I mean her barn is filled to the gills with her own birds. I do know of some nice people that would take care of your roosters and keep them warm in a stew pot for you.

Just wait until she gets some pigeons! Then that barn will be packed!

I am fine as frog hair. Thanks for asking Jerry.
I’m knitting wool socks and baby toques.

I’m chasing a girl basketball player. We had 7 games in 10 days. I had two chiropractic appointments. Because of knitting and iPhone use. My neck muscles are tight. Pretty dumb.

I’m watching the Mille lacs lake ice house saga and I-35 mess with interest. What a winter!
Grandpa and his brother developed this in the 1950’s.

Our driveway on the farm was long and merciless in the winter. These boys knew how to remove snow.

Eel pout was a foot or more of slush and water on the lake. Can you imagine waking up with your worst hangover ever to chip away at frozen ice in gale force blizzard winds to get a wheel house off? I’d hate to do it with no hangover. Not smart. People are hustling and breaking plows and plow trucks to get stupid people’s wheel houses off. Glad DH took his off two weeks ago. He is plowing lake roads though. If your equipment isn’t broke then there’s money being made.
Roof shovelers. Snow is good for economics.

Chickens: poor poor babies. -22 f last night. Broken red bulb on the heat lamp. So changed that. We are dreaming of buttercups and May flowers.

PS Eel pout is very good. Aka “poor man's lobster”

Tip of the day: Watch out for curling Eel pout. They’ll wrap around your wrist. Then schite on you.
