Eel Pout or Burbot are actually a sign of lack of pollution or cleanliness of a lake. They decline in pollution. They are pretty sensitive to it I guess. That being said when you pull one up it appears out of the water like a creature from a radio active frankenstein lab with sliming of the fisherman almost immediately with drips in droves and no end or industrial use to speak of for the slime. Then once you finally get a hold of it good...and it's still writhing it poops steadily on you. So if you're still determined to keep the darn thing and actually fight the slime to take the skin off you are taking back straps out of it.
Oh yes-- Laugh all you want. BC and her backstraps!

Another tip: I would not take back straps off an eel pout found on the highway. Freshy only! Deep fry or boil in 7up. Dip in garlic butter.
