Surviving Minnesota!

The younger ages were always stressful for me, I prefer teenagers. I miss my teenagers terribly. I cried and cried when my 3rd one went off to college. I have one coming up though, she's 13 and ready to test me. Fun times ahead.

Before we left for our family get together I was hoping to get a broody, I had 12 eggs two of my best hens I wanted to set, and of course no hens became broody so I started the incubator again. I did not tell my Grandma about the incubator because this one can be a bit tempermental. Before I left I also took the cock I am not showing and put him with the females I am not showing so that when I got back I would hopefully have some eggs to set.
When I got home yesterday I went to the layer coop and guess what there are 2 broodies, and in the Cochin coop there is one broody. So I took probably around 18 eggs that the Cochins laid while I was gone and gave them to the broodies. When I finally got up to the house last night and checked the incubator it shows 104°. So I adjusted it and candled the eggs a while later, suprisingly 7 out of 12 are developing or they were developing up until the incubator spiked . So today these 7 eggs are going under a broody as they will hatch the day before I leave for state fair.

I made a mistake last night. After coming in from the fireworks last night I didn’t close the back door of the attached garage where the littles still want to go to roost. Sometimes I carry them to the coop. Sometimes I’m too tired for coop training. Well something had major cajones traipsing into my garage and took my barnevelder cockerel. He died defending I’m sure. So little to do a brave thing. I don’t like this screw up on my part. I should have been a better keeper. Little rooster or not...
