We are looking to diversify our Large Fowl show line. We are looking for a faster maturing bird....Buff Orpington and Buckeyes are some of the slowest to mature. Looking for suggestions.

It seems to me like any good show quality breed takes quite awhile to finish out.

Looks pretty small to me..which is more than we have now..

I doubt I will get a fresh shroom until morel season now... with the exception of chaga..

on another note ... the DNR is coming to measure my northern pin oak tree in the front yard..

I took measurements and sent them in to the USA large tree list people .. or champion trees or something like that.

It could be the largest pin oak in the state.. they or second largest...it is that close with no others close to mine and the one in Caledonia...

it’s about 90 ft tall using a Clinometer app.. 66ft average spread and 143 inches circumference at 4.5 ft. It scores 246.5 if I did it right.. the current champ is 249. ( I think they said).. the next one down is 206

I have no idea of its age.. I know 60 years ago we had a tire swing (something far too dangerous to have these days) hanging from a branch that fell off years ago.

The girth and spread I am sure of.. the Clinometer app height seems too high, but I did try it on known heights and it was right on. We will have to wait and see what the forestry people say.

I am thinking of searching for large trees when out and about mushroom hunting.

Morning . Nice day yesterday and today . Been cutting up a huge oak 32 inches at the stump . Wind took it down late winter or early spring . Got another big one that is dead . Not quite that big . Going to seed the stumps with hen of the woods . Lots of dead ash also .

How do you do that? We have a dying tree here that had hen of the woods on it, but we ate it. I had no idea you could “seed” it.

Thank you Memphis ! I found it in my parent’s garage last summer. My Dad told me Grandpa bought it for Grandma’s ‘to market’ egg business because he thought they were ripping her off.
Dad giggled and rolled his eyes, “Imagine the cents they saved.”
