Surviving Minnesota!

He seems like a harmless enough fellow

Oh no ! you too . Reminds me of a lake incident I had a few years ago . I was fishing in the evening and there was a woman on shore with a robe on . Couple of other boats with a guy each . Before long they left as it was getting late . I kept fishing and next time I looked over that way she was in the lake taking a swim . Then it hit me . Even at 1/4 mile she could tell I was not a threat . She would not get in until the younger men left .

Rhetts, as relates to winning those chicks of Ralphies. You can tell your husband to put his mind at ease, as I have met Ralphie in person more than once and he made no undue advances toward me even when we met without Judy being present. He seems like a harmless enough fellow
Ralphie, I am wondering if you were familiar with Mr. Kind who recently passed? You would probably have known him from your prior professional career?

Yes, I have known him for about 40 years. He was an amazing driven guy. He truly liked people and keeping busy. He could spin an unusually entertaining yarn too.
I just got a email from my former employer informing me of his demise. I thought briefly about going to the funeral. But it will be huge and I am really a introverted recluse and do not enjoy crowds.

Old age has a few, very few advantages.

Hi all,

It's been a crazy week. Our 14 year old cat quit eating, and was wasting away. Ended up finding out she had cancer, and put her down on Thursday, as she was basically starving to death. That night, my sister went into labor. She had her baby boy the next morning. He got stuck, and ended up with a broken arm, so they sent him down to Children's. I spent a few days visiting and driving her around. Thankfully, he is just fine and home now, and they think the arm should heal in 2 weeks.

As for chickens, Sunday I had to put the sick pullet out of her misery. I found her on her back, and she couldn't stay upright anymore. Can't get better if you can't even sit up.
This morning I found my favorite hen dead. I have noticed she was low on energy and last night she looked pale. She didn't seem to have any symptoms otherwise, and was eating, so I didn't do anything about it. She might have just gotten old, although she was only 4. Nobody else seems to be weak or sick, so I hope that's enough of that for now. Although, I plan to cull one of the roosters soon.

I think my "chicks" are big enough to join the rest of the crew. It will make the rest of the winter easier.

It's good to see you back with us where you belong. Bummer about all the bad things, my condolences and best wishes and all the stuff.

How old are the chicks you are putting outside?

I have these 4 orphans that no one has "WON" yet. I am wondering if I put them with that BA I have that has an overly active mothering gene would broody up and take them. Of course, that would mean she would have to stop mothering her 8 month old Guineas...Yeah she still mothers them.. It is just weird.

Weirder yet they allow it!

@SleepyOwl Tough week. Glad baby is going to be ok. Sorry about the hens. Moving birds to make life easier is always a good thing!!

No calf. I know it is getting old hearing that.

She did have more mucus hanging last night so still heading in the right direction.

I don't enjoy this kind of weather trying to raise poultry. Like Ralphie said the litter can go from good to bad in a second. Nothing more true than that!! So hard to stay on top of coop moisture.

About DH.................................yeah. Enough said.

I had a unique revelation yesterday while having lunch with a few coworkers that I meant to relate to you guys...

We recently hired 2 new programmers and so a group of us took them to lunch. We were all talking about our hobbies and such. One of my coworkers who also lives out in my neck of the woods talks about how he and his wife keep horses and such and everyone is 'wow! Cool! Neat!' Then when the coworker pointed out that I also lived out there the new guy asked if we had horses or anything. I briefly mentioned that we raised chickens and sold eggs and things which kicked off a conversation about me playing a farmer in my free time and odd questions about my farm
The whole time all i am thinking about is 'why didn't anybody ask the other guy who has an acreage this stuff'? Somehow to the 'city folk', horses seem to be thought of like keeping a dog or cat like a pet and not like a large animal/livestock

Not that It really bothers me, but I found it interesting and though you guys might too.

LOL This and the two little guys and that black lab beside me and my husband in his recliner. What a picture!

Quiet day today for sure! I'm taking tomorrow off for a nice long weekend and hope to take advantage of the warmer weather.

Need to scoop out one coop again. Those chickens sit inside all day and poo and poo and poo!

On the bright side I found a new egg customer today. He is on some special low carb, high protein diet and eats 5-6 eggs a day! Cha ching Cha Ching!!!!!
