Surviving Minnesota!

The sickly chick is gone!

livie came and got it and 2 cans of chicken noddle soup.

Yes, he AND Judy said I should take two Roos. I was never going to raise meat birds but oh well. We will see what happens when the deed actually needs to be done. Haven't names to boys yet but came up for the girl. SC for sick chick. Say it out loud once. Kinda sounds like Este in the Este Park, Colorado. So it could be written Etsy. What do YOU think?

I do have the brooder light on the brooder. I WANT her to be more active - just not all the time of course. She needs to rest in between P T and feeding/watering. Ralphie, I soaked starter and then put it in her beek. She gobbles it and does well with water when I help her. Like 30 seconds of PT and then a 5 minute feed then she can rest an hour. Cept that will not be all the time because I have a busy week this week. So she will have a few hours to make it through on her own some times.
Still, considering her condition she is pretty spry.

She is. She is not one that says" Oh, I am crippled , I might as well die.". She has been pretty active considering how badly she is physically.

But her neck does straighten out. I am more concerned about that right leg. splayed legs? thinking I will look up that info again and maybe follow their leads on splayed legs. I don't think she has an actual splayed leg and she will not straighten out that leg very well. We do a few legs thrusts with that leg - very gently - for part of the PT. Plus I feed her (not easily) while in a sitting position with her head supported between my fingers. She is wide a wake.

Okay - enough. No wonder my friends and family laugh AT me although I prefer that they laugh with me.

BC I had never heard that called Thanks!

It is good to see it can be treated. As a kid growing up there was one treatment for a bird like that. I was not about to do that if I thought it had a chance.

I am betting Ivie will have a great pet when she is done with SC. BTW in MN it should be Estes Brook. We all know where that is, right?

I bet the vitamins and treatment used on the neck will help the leg too. I feel bad because it is my fault she has the wry neck. I should have seen she was in distress and helped her out of her egg earlier. It seems I never get that part right. If I help too soon, they die, If I wait to long they die or have the bad neck/leg. SC was dry in the shell and the membrane was heat shrink wrapped on her.
