Igor? Good name. I want to name another barred rock Geisla. I have to look up the correct spelling. Gilda and Geisla. Anyway, worms. We had/have the typical sand of Sherburne county and I have amended it in the garden, plus all the leaves and branches on the river bank make it more compost than sand, and hence, earth worms. Which are good for the plants but bad for turkeys. Since I do not raise turkeys I am not too worried and I am not selling chickens so I am not worried about spreading this if my chickies have it - but does it affect their meat?

As far as I know it does not affect the meat, eggs or anything on the chickens. I think it is like brain worms in moose, deer carry it with no effect and it kills moose.

MY wife said she likes having the chicks to watch, but the dust is a pain and her house is a chicken coop. I did tell her I would try to move the incubator and chicks to a different building next year....But we all know how hollow a promise like that can be.

Well I just ordered some chicks from McMurry . Some rose comb light brown Leghorn , Silver Penciled Rock and a couple of Dark Brahma cockerels . Could not get any pullets sold out . Week of April 18 shipment .

I am interested on how your leghorns turn out. I am considering getting some. I ordered silver penciled rocks last year, 5 of them and got 5 roosters were sold as straight run only. Still have 3 of them. I am not impressed with their behaviors. They will be heading to freezer camp when I get to it. I have a dark Brahma hen (was the freebie last year) She looks nice. Would like to see how your roos turn out!!

As far as blackhead goes, I thought it had to be in your soil first in order for it to be passed along. If it isn't there then they won't get it. Do correct me if I am wrong please!! All my birds (chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks) free range the same areas and yes they eat earthworms so far no blackhead issues and my turkeys will be 2 in June.
