Surviving Minnesota!

UPS should deliver my roostocks today . Got some pin cherry seeds in the mail today . Going to stratify (cool moist period ) them for planting . These will go to the lake property . Got a eye appointment today . Diabetic so checking eyes .So no grafting today .

Here is a story I have not shared with you yet . I have a rare case with one eye . A few years ago I contracted Toxoplasmosis . Got really sick and nobody new what I had . I got better when I got antibiotics for a sinus infection . So in about 5 years January 2012 my vision got wavy in my right eye . Took awhile to find out it was the Toxo parasite in my optic nerve . So they treated me with steroids and antibiotics to put the beast asleep and clear the inflammation . Then a few months later scar tissue contracted and detached the retina . So I had surgery . Never got back to normal . The surgery caused a cataract so I had surgery for that . Bottom line I can see some in that eye but can not read with it . Plus there is a blank spot in the middle of my vision in that eye . Still a little wave in the vision .

Nope we help our grandpa run a herd of beef cows. We only have 4 cows out of the 27 cows. Well its 26 now because we lost a cow. We dont have Highlands. My mom wants one but they r to small for us. That and cows with horns are pains in the rear if the r with cows without horns. All the do is bully the others. Our tiny Jersey is mean to cows that are almost the same height I am and I am 5' 9".

Ivie I will get pics later today when the sun is shining.

I'm getting a Jersey in a few weeks. She used to be shown, she is super nice! I can't wait to get her

I think I should tell everyone now instead of later, I am not an adult, even though I wish I was, I am actually a teenager. I want everyone to know so that they don't take this the wrong way.

Eyes are tricky business Jerry (highest paid MD's). I hope all goes well with your Dr. Appointment. What an interesting case you must be for them. I'm glad they got you figured out before it got to the other eye...?

I wore contact lenses for 22 years before I got Lasik done 10 years ago. Absolutely love the results. Dr. Poland from Crosby did it before he was killed in a car crash. he was a reknowned Opthalmologist in the state and helped develop the laser treatments. Very much missed.

Ivie: that bird is in some tender loving care.

I went through Welp Hatchery in Bancroft Iowa, this is our second year going through them and the first year we had no deaths on the shipment, but they didn't last long because there was a fox that ate 4 of the 7 that we had ordered through Mark's Fleet Supply in Perham. In Perham, you didn't need the hatcheries minimum, they would bulk order them so that is why we got 7 instead of 25 last year.

If I remember right, Welps has free shipping when you order 25 chicks. That's a nice incentive. It can be pretty spendy, otherwise. There's a few breeds I hope to see them get once my ladies slow down and I need more layers.

Thats awesome! R u going to use her for a milk cow? Theres nothing better than fresh milk from a Jersey. They have the best milk I think and they r sweet cows too! Our Jersey is filling up with milk so its only a matter of time till we start milking. Show cows are fun to have around! They r so docile from being handled everyday. I showed a Tarentaise/Gelbvieh cross lat summer and she is still so nice. I could even milk her if I wanted. Except she is getting bred this summer since she didnt take last year.

Jerry, so sorry about the vision problems. I know it is part of aging, I remember as a kid my Grandpa handing me a hook and fishing line all the time and saying can you put the line through that hole... I know why now, I can't wait for my grandkids to get old enough to help me fish.....

I always had better than 20/20 eyes I think it was 15/20 or something like that and depth perception was great. Now not so much I need reading glasses for almost everything. I still do not wear glasses to drive except on dark dreary nights when I cannot seem to get enough light for my eyes to function..

I guess I am like my dog, just getting old.

I think I have some pin cherries growing near a tree in the woods, young ones I mean. Do you want some if I cam find them? I might have some Choke cherries and I know I have some wild black berries here at the farm. In addition to the bumble berries and Raspberries and whatever I have at the cabin, you're welcome to anything I have growing anywhere.

BTW I like pin cherry jelly!
