Good Morning my fellow chickeners. So I could sleep last night, I brought Tom in and did what I could. I wrapped him tightly in towels and that works like a charm. Amazing. I left enough towel at the top so I could cover his eyes. I put a towel on the table for padding and sanitary reasons although nothing was getting through those wrapped towels he had on.
I had a tweezers, super glue, empty tea bag cut up, additional 'surgery' lighting, a magnifying glass, an emery board and small scissors ready, along with saline solution to clean and tea tree oil to apply. He laid on the table as if this was an every-day occurrence. It was so easy. So I cut and pieced and glued. The beak does not have a point on it and I still may decide to find out if I can get the acrylic nail done. My thought is that a nail would only give him the point on the end and wondering what it would do to the damaged portion and the matrix(?) under it. We will see. Plus I got to examine the whole beak up close and was reassured by what I could see. Then I hydrated him before putting him back on the roost.
Observing him closely today. He will not be leaving the coop. I can hear him crow so that must be a good thing.
Now I can say that I know what to do with a bird to amazingly keep it still and quiet. Very easy to work on him so if you ever need to use the method it was truly wonderful.
