Surviving Minnesota!

Your drake could probably give my Rottweiler a run for his money! Is he a chocolate?

He is a Lilac. I have never experienced a Muscocy with a bad temper. I have had 3 drakes. 2 chocolates and this Lilac. The Lilac was the most calm of the group so he stayed.

We have a pond on our property and last year a pair of geese made it their home. This year, I've only seen wood ducks. Anyways, our dog got a little too close and a goose got at him. He doesn't go near the pond anymore! It's funny because they could care less about the chickens hanging out.

Lilac is probably one of my more favorite colors with the Muscovy

LOL! Poor guy! At least it wasnt a swan!

The Lilacs are beautiful! I was so happy to be able to find some!

Holm, if you get any Lilac ducklings I may have to beg for some. But I can't leave with more than 2! Okay....3. But that's it! Well, 4 is a nice even number

LOL!! I should have plenty of Lilacs! But guess what! Someone *cough* Mabel the turkey hen *cough* stepped on some duck eggs so now there is only three! I have alot saved so they r going in in the next few days. I feel bad about it taking longer to get ducklings! I guess u learn by mistakes...

We have a big plastic stock tank. You're right, Bogtown, ACV is a big no-no for any metal waterer.

From what I've read, the goldfish are cold hardy and can stay in a big stock tank all year, but the sucker fish will die in the cold.

I've been putting the vinegar in the stock tank to prevent algae build up, and we just keep topping it off. I could bathe in the thing with a couple friends, it's huge.

I think I'll try the goldfish now & the sucker when it warms up. The kids like petting the cats and rabbits, so it helps with chore time - I've always got a buddy. I think the fish would be fun to watch. From what I've read, they eat up larvae plus random leaves and straw that fall in there.

Thanks for the mosquito dunk idea, everyone. I'll keep that in my back pocket, too.

I like the idea of bullheads, too. We have a little river nearby where they are prevalent. Might be good to see if they'll eat up that algae & goldfish poo.

Holm, you must have a great water setup! But I suppose you'd need to with that many cattle! I can't imagine lugging buckets or even running the hose every day for so many.

Klop Klop, I used those cup waterers last year (love Cornerstone!) and they kept leaking, from the bucket where I installed them. How did you prevent that? We tried a few things and went back to those heavy waterers, white & red with the black handle. No biggie to order the bell type, we're small scale commercial & will make it back.

Glad to hear about all the healthy calves. We may get a steer or two this year. No milk cow yet, we need to get a milking facility set up. Plus a dedicated rabbit colony. And those bee hives to build. We love the sheep so much, I hope to get a couple pregnant ewes soon, we just have wethers for meat now.

Ralphie, with so many eggs and a new bator, you should be seeing some good hatches soon. Too bad about the PCs.

Good night, all!

Beings I am 20 some posts behind. I love it!

I will jump in on the drinking cups. I use them but mine are from Amazon. There are two types of cups those look like the ones with the springs, they do not leak like the springless ones do.

I drill a hole and tap it for threads, I think it is a 3/8 fine thread tap. I know it was one that was hard to find, as I never used it for anything else. I also put a O-ring behind it. I found 3/8 -9/16 works best.

The PC's are a dilemma, I so like them and want lots this summer, so I will not give up on them. Maybe if I take Ed's Easter Egger Girlfriends away he will fall in love with the PC's. If the girls ever get over being broody. I may move them out of the chick building if that keeps them broody.

I suppose someone has answered the water cup issue before I get this posted.

Dangit Mabel! Lol! Just keep me posted. No huge rush.

I have to share a few pictures of our new family member(s)....

Meet Harry the Mini Lop. It's been an adventure around our house. Ducklings, a bunny, and chicks. DH is about done with the hutch, so it'll be nice moving him into the garage until the weather perks up. He's a bit of a Houdini in his cage.

On a chicken side note, I'm hoping my BCM pullets start laying soon. They're getting some good red around the face. They're about 22 weeks now. I need more eggs!

Yes I use the spring type (as linked)
I drilled the 3/8 hole in the Bucket but didn't tap it. Not enough material. I also used o rings as you described. No leaking issues for me
