Ralphie the Partridge hens will be coming into their second summer, so rate of lay may be a little less than ideal. In my experience these birds lay well even as they age.

Morning all. All caught up reading. Been a busy and tough week here. Most days didn't get home till late. Yesterday had a funeral for my cousins boy. He was only 23. They ruled his death accidental suicide. It was a heartbreaking funeral, very tough.
Haven't seen much of my girls this week. They are on roost when I leave of course, and this week, when I got home. Did check on them a few times with my hen cam. Tonight I have to work late to try and make up time lost this week with all my running.

Coffee and Sleepy, so sorry for your losses. Ralphie, how the little guy pulls through.

Rhetts, it should be soon now? Maybe take her for a walk, sometimes that will get things rolling, right? Lol

Bogtown, glad your wiring is straightened out, now you can relax about the house burning down. The lights are fantastic!

Memphis, thanks for the turkey people stories, hilarious! And people think I'm bad with my chickens (crazy chicken lady)

There is little doubt on them. These were not "Pats" But even on the self sexing creamers I only claim 90% correctness.

It is funny you should mention the feathers Coffee. I told Judy last night, "look at those wing feathers!" I was surprised to see them feathering so soon. I might be able to throw them out in the cold in a few weeks.



BC of all the people in the world, you were the last I expected to question the infallibility of Ralphie!

My weaker guy seems to be doing fine. I have the two left, These are not going anywhere. One of these will be my replacement rooster, If I keep the creamettes.

The person that got the Chicks from Jordan texted me they lost one. The one they thought was a girl. I still think they have a girl and a possible girl. BUT I told them I would get them a couple more, but they want me to hold off. I just do not want anyone saying I do not give them what is agreed upon. Worries me some. People from the cities with pet chickens to me do not (not all people some people) seem to understand 20% of all chicks die as chicks. They are fragile, they are only a fetus for 21 days and sometimes things go wrong and they are not complete. They just fail to thrive. When they get 2 chicks I just know they expect them both to live, I want to say, get three and hope for 2, but. That is the negative nanny in me.

Sorry to hear about your nephew, Cluckies.

Hopefully the PC"s will be in their own pen today. Thanks EJB, I am sure you told me their age, as sure as I am I forgot it. Dang an old brain is not what it was....They are sure nice looking birds for going on 2!

SleepOwl ive skipped a bunch of post just to catch up.. But how is the Pony doing?? 

I do the same thing. It's too hard to keep up sometimes.
Pony is doing great! We haven't ridden yet (too cold or too busy) but I spenda little time with her a couple times a day. She's a pretty easy going thing. Her only vice that I can see so far is that she will sometimes throw her head up when you hold her. Not sure how to explain it, but I'm working on holding her face a bit each day to hopefully get her to quit.

Your sprouts look great! Do you have any mold? I have read oats are more likely to mold. I've only sprouted wheat.

She wants to dominate you! Be head horse, Shame on her. If you can try to stand on something so your eyes are higher than hers. BUT be careful not to be on something that she can knock you off.

Oh and try to push her head down instead of pull it down.


Also lunge the horse. Lunging is made to instill dominance over the horse as much as anything else. I am trying to remember what I learned about horse many moons ago. I do remember I failed as much as I succeeded. Well, not quite that often, but the failures stick with me more than the successes.

Yea....you never know what you'll run into over in the turkey thread. Turkeys bond so strongly with humans they end up being pets, like a feathered dog! And they are so quirky it can be hilarious! Ya'll need a turkey pet! I'm sure Ralph can get you set up! Then you'll have to join the turkey thread, learn a new turkey specific language, enjoy wacky turkey stories, post pictures of your turkeys doing crazy things, debate the exact variety of your turkey...Ya never know what might pop up over there!
