Longer days have the roosters getting more aggressive . I had to separate one that was getting beat up .
Holm... You did just fine by culling those. For the show ring they don't have near enough caruncles on the face. Even a young drake should have more than that. That white on the head isn't good for show ring either and will keep on popping up in future babies.
Nice area here and like all the pictures. Here it is the middle of winter and we have 2 week old chicks in a brooder in our basement. Phase 2 will begin shortly with a new temporary brooder in the garage for our chicks. we will have to move them in like 2 to 3 more weeks. i imagine they will be more then ready then and hope that it warms up a bit. Phil said we are going to see an early spring so that would be nice for the chicks. ha. Then we are going to put in a coop (permanent) in our backyard more like the one duluthralphie posted with a nice size run. We will move our 2nd phase brooder into a shed we have under the deck until we can get the permanent coop done. This is Minnesota so that could be April or June who knows..lol Hope to see more people posting on her soon. This is our first time raising chickens. We live in central MN in a burb of MSP on an acre lot on the very edge of our town.![]()
He is beautiful!! I need to find a drake with nice caruncles like that. I do want to show from my pair but do u think I would do any good with some of my own ducklings??
Ducks are NOT evil! I think what happened to you is this: You were 5 or 6 years old, and a muscovy drake chased you off and maybe gave you a little peck. So don't get muscovies, but get any mallard derived breed, they are much more friendly and personable than chickens, I know you would love them.YOU DUCK PEOPLE!!
You are not going to change my mind on waterfowl, I remain firmly against them..
But they sure are good looking birds. I have guineas, I cannot have two evil species at the same time. I can't..
I can't....
I can't.....
But Duck is good tasting..Hmmmmm
ha me too...first i have to tackle maple syrup season coming soon. between building chicken coops and all that fun stuff for our new chicks. But last week i planted some lavender, and rosemary and have them under grow lights. We have cherry tomatoes turning red in the aerogarden and i started some brussels sprouts which can be planted as soon as i can get into the ground...they like cool weather. I think i am to early. ha. but i am anxious.I am jonesing for some warm weather this morning. I like winter but this time of year when I am starting to plan my garden and am thinking about spring chicken plans I can be a bit impatient. I've already planted onions and herbs for the garden this year. They are starting to come up too!
