Surviving Minnesota!

Nope.. I was an adult and was trying to love them by raising them....My Dad was too smart to have a duck on the farm when I was growing up....

On top of that is a Shorthorn heifer. I love showing though so thats fine. I think Heidi did pretty good in open class with her Cream legbars Ralph I saw her there with them before she sold them.

She did real well with them, which is why I am raising these guys. I am hoping my still nameless rooster is a beauty. and of course his sisters and cousins, BUT lets face it us non-show people love the looks of a handsome rooster.

None of the waterfowl have even given thought to laying yet. Ditzy me was loading duck eggs in incubator last October yet in hopes of getting more of these beauties. Every dang one was a rouen duckling though.... Talk about a mess raising those buggers in the house in winter. In my experience at least, these show type muscovies aren't near as productive as your regular ones.

I have over 60 silkie chicks/juveniles in the basement and garage already. A handful of bantam faverolles out of the shell and they are just starting to lay for me. The bantam polish and standard cochins are still on strike.

Haha Ralphie.... Yes I'm an ENABLER!

Holm, I am getting this little guy ready for you to show. I am getting him accustomed to being surrounded by Purple.

I think he wears it well... BTW I am going to be naming him soon..

Also look how well he looks in a chalice!

He looks like a natural hatched champion to me!

holy crap guys! i go out to do chores and make an egg sandwich and you bang out almost 50 posts!

I wanted to write a post on our farm facebook page about Fart Eggs as i thought it would be fun. Check out what i learned about the folklore behind them!

Back in the day, these tiny fart eggs were called cock's eggs as some people believed that the tiny eggs were laid by roosters. back then, very superstitious people believed that if these small eggs were found and incubated by a toad it would hatch an evil winged beast called a cockatrice! A cockatrice has the head of a rooster and the body of a snake with wings. It was said that a cockatrice could kill a person just by looking at them or breathing on them! The only way to prevent a cockatrice from hatching was to take the tiny egg and throw it over the peak of your family's house without letting it touch the house. It was also said that a cockatrice would die when it heard a rooster crow.

That is cool! I assume it started as a way to not waste time hatching a fart egg and morphed into this superstition .
