Based on what I remember you and Jerry saying about single and double barring, Conrad would be single barred because he has some feathers (in the tail) that are solid. Correct?

That could well be, I think the barring would manifest itself in the tail and primaries before anywhere else. I know in turkeys when trying to determine the genotype we look at the tail and wings for any signing of barring. Barring is different in a turkey than a chicken though.

I do know barring can be "broken" or very faint to see. When I looked at my hens I can see the hackles have something similar to barring but I think when it is on the hackles it is not barring but something else.

Now that we have put 3/4 of the thread to sleep, what else is new?

I have to tell you though, I a far from an expert on this stuff. Jerry is light years ahead of me. Kevin Porter posted an article yesterday on b,b1 and b+ and what it does in turkeys and the possibility they found a new allele on one locus. I read it three times and do not understand it at all. I think it is written for someone with a lot more education than me. It was one of those things that was so hard to read, when the chicks chirped, I had toy yell at them to shut up..

As far as new... Last night my aunt from Iowa called and asked if I would save Rainbow eggs for her to hatch. I said sure and she asked if I could have 2 dozen ready on Saturday...
My 4 hens are in a mixed flock (only my rainbow roo with them) so I haven't a clue who's eggs are who's!

Just my rainbow roo is with them and I know he likes to keep his rainbow hens well fertilized. The trick is making sure I don't give her rainbow over BA or over RIR

Can u put tge Rainbows in a pen or green house thing till u have enough eggs from them?

Once you lock up a rainbow hen and see her eggs You should be able to pick theirs out from the other breeds.

I thought about whether the rainbows were barred or not. I decided they weren't that is why I called them Calico. If there is any barring It would be single barring and that would most likely not pass on. to a male chick. I think they need double barring to give it to a male offspring. I am not sure why I am saying that but I recall reading something about it.

I have been studying Turkey Genotypes and what goes where and does what, I have messed up the little I knew about chickens..

Hens are single barred called hemizygous . They only pass the barring to the male chicks . Roosters when double barred pass one copy to the hen chicks and the hen and rooster pass one copy to the male chicks . In breeds like Legbar .

I can't remember which is which in the zw . But in chickens the hen as the zw and decides the sex of chicks by which one see passes on . The rooster has 2 the same not sure if it is zz or ww . Anyway whichever he has is where barring is located .

I was hoping that is the case. I will keep tonight's unseparated eggs away from the other coops eggs and then try to pen off my rainbows tonight. Then tomorrow I can compare the rainbow eggs to today's eggs and know what to look for going forward.

I told her that they come with no guarantees since I am not set up for segregation yet.

I wonder if my hens are broken barred. If you look at those pictures you can almost see faint striping. You can't really see it when you look at them in person but in the photos here you can see that they aren't truly solid
