That could well be, I think the barring would manifest itself in the tail and primaries before anywhere else. I know in turkeys when trying to determine the genotype we look at the tail and wings for any signing of barring. Barring is different in a turkey than a chicken though.
I do know barring can be "broken" or very faint to see. When I looked at my hens I can see the hackles have something similar to barring but I think when it is on the hackles it is not barring but something else.

I have to tell you though, I a far from an expert on this stuff. Jerry is light years ahead of me. Kevin Porter posted an article yesterday on b,b1 and b+ and what it does in turkeys and the possibility they found a new allele on one locus. I read it three times and do not understand it at all. I think it is written for someone with a lot more education than me. It was one of those things that was so hard to read, when the chicks chirped, I had toy yell at them to shut up..
