Surviving Minnesota!

Ivie I hope you love your little Brits. King George got to be a belly button because Ralphie elevated his status to King, should have stayed a Lord, maybe he could have handled Prince.

Keep posting pictures everyone. At this point I may forget what a chicken looks like.

I copied this photo from the Illinois thread . A white sport . This is the tinted chick down that will help sex the white sports . This looks like a cockerel . Going to keep trying to buy one from her .
Jerry, there is no need for you to try too hard to buy one from her. IF, and that is a big IF, I keep hatching them at the rate I am, I will should have some for you to tak back this year.

Thanks ! Wanting to test my idea on these . The Legbar people do not understand IMO . They kept saying they would loose the auto sexing gene ( which is due to barring ) and you would have to breed back to the regular line to get it back . It never leaves in these white sports . You just have to select for enough chick down color so you can see the spot .

Isn't there some saying about counting chickens in relation to when they hatch??

LOL that's why I said a big if. I am still getting one White sport for every 25 chicks. I just finished the last hatch. I had 24 eggs go into the hatcher I have 22 chicks, one is a white sport. I am hoping my move to separate the CLB's will increase my chances of White ones.

Jerry, I need your advice , again. We should just have the "ask Jerry" thread!

I told you I moved that black EE into the coop with the BA's. I had not gotten an egg from her, until yesterday. Her egg looks just like a BA egg. Same size, shape and color. I am wondering if I should not concentrate on making a line of pea combed BA's. I like the BA's but the single combs just are not made for Minnesota.

I know it would not be a true BA, but looks wise it would be pretty darn close without the single comb..

Your thoughts? If I try to bring the black birds eggs back to green or blue, I will most likely lose the coloring or the comb, I think.

That is my thought too, The last one I had hatch has a very definite spot on it's head. That said it is hard to say if it would be inside of the V if it had chipmunk stripes.

You will be getting a black Ameraucana rooster for your black EE . You can use that hen to make pea comb BA . Half of her chicks will inherit 1 copy of pea comb . Breed those together and keep selecting for good pea comb . Especially the roosters . You can tell the tall pea combs only have one copy .

Ok, So I would want to breed the small pea combs that are almost hard to tell area pea comb?
