Good Morning yu all! Nothing here - the ground is dry.
Gonna revise the big coop (I now have two coops/runs) as you all know. I was watching a u-tube video on broody's and saw a broody nest made out of a 18-gal cheapo tub - black (about $4.49 at
Walmart.) Picked one up, cut the entrance in it. Put newspaper on the bottom so it would not be as slippery as the plain bottom, put lots of pine shavings on top of the newspaper and put it in the big coop. Tom Hanks checked it out thoroughly. He clucked and clucked and went into it and tore it apart. Don't need to worry about that bottom being slippery - he tore up the newspaper and threw out alot of the shavings. LOL. I will check it out in a while to see if any eggs were laid.
I have been tracking my eggs and watching diligently to find out who is laying when and how many a day I am getting. I mean, I know how many I get in any given day but I have never tracked who is giving me what and when.
Its snowing out - just started. 10:12 a.m.
Additionally, I have been brooding some chicks in the basement. Ralphie - you saw my plastic tub - that is where the two CLB boys are now. They are getting so large and they are so excitable that I had to separate them out so that they did not hurt SC by trampling her when I freshened up their water and food. They are kind of nuts. So I created another brooder on the floor. It is approximately 2 x 4. I purchased a piece of insulator board at Home. then I cut a cardboard box apart and taped it back together around that piece of board - taping it on the outside to keep its structure. Then I did sticky contact paper (I know its slippery) to make sure that the floor and the cardboard stay together. Over the contact paper I put newspaper and then pine shavings. I would not hesitate to put 25 chicks in this area - it is plenty large enough for that many. The 3 SS and SC are in it and six chicks and they pretty much use 1/2 of it. Brooder lamp clamped onto a shelf above it (because it was convenient) AND a mama cave. They love it - well, I think they love it.
Started SC on more vitamins yesterday. Makes a huge difference in such a short time. She is doing much better.
