Surviving Minnesota!

Jerry, I have light acidic soil here and pin cherries in full sun. Choke cherries do well as understory in my experience, but even in the wild pin cherries seem to need an open sunny location.
As relates to june berries I would have them for ornamental value and feed for the birds. I would much prefer blueberries for eating or baking. I do not bake but my wife is a fantastic cook and baker, and she will even assist with picking the berries. The blueberries are also an excellent ornamental plant for landscape purposes. Bright dark green leaves which turn red in the fall.

To the young gentleman participating on this thread. Stick with the chickens. They are a good hobby and can keep one occupied and away from bad habits. You could also get racing pigeons, but No. Dak. does not have any clubs racing to my knowledge.

It's a rainy day in Minnesota...isn't it? And the study hall teachers in NoDak have zero radar for kids on phones. LOL.

Just to be safety safe. Ralph had one teenager remove their age...but I think another put down their hometown. I think to be safe we should have that edited out too. I think we are all normal people on here and I don't want to be too bossy with our newbies, as I feel like I've already been bossy with somebody else...but you never know who reads these threads on the sly and are very manipulative with kids and people in general. There's weirdos out there kids...so be careful and go back and cover your tracks a bit.

Ralphie it's the weather today. My hip is aching, and did last night ...lack of sleep. Foggy head. I'm not even ancient.

Kloppers I feel your pain on trying to keep up with this thread.

UPS should deliver my roostocks today . Got some pin cherry seeds in the mail today . Going to stratify (cool moist period ) them for planting . These will go to the lake property . Got a eye appointment today . Diabetic so checking eyes .So no grafting today .

Here is a story I have not shared with you yet . I have a rare case with one eye . A few years ago I contracted Toxoplasmosis . Got really sick and nobody new what I had . I got better when I got antibiotics for a sinus infection . So in about 5 years January 2012 my vision got wavy in my right eye . Took awhile to find out it was the Toxo parasite in my optic nerve . So they treated me with steroids and antibiotics to put the beast asleep and clear the inflammation . Then a few months later scar tissue contracted and detached the retina . So I had surgery . Never got back to normal . The surgery caused a cataract so I had surgery for that . Bottom line I can see some in that eye but can not read with it . Plus there is a blank spot in the middle of my vision in that eye . Still a little wave in the vision .

Jerry I know what it's like to have that blind spot, several years ago I noticed a wave in my left eye. Went to the eye dr. and was sent to a retinologist. After a bunch of tests they said it's Central Serous Retinopathy.
Supposedly it's not very common. It can be very hard to focus on things that you really want to focus on. Good vision should not be taken for granted. Thanks for sharing & best of luck with the vision you have!!

By Juneberries do you mean the Strawberries that bear in June (once a year) Or is this something else I have misnamed for years?

Pincherries love the sand here, but for some reason they have declined since I was a kid, we use to have more, or my memory is fuzzy.
