Surviving Minnesota!

Good Morning ! Going to be a nice day here . Not windy and sunny . Those fabric pot I bought are said to be 5 gallons but really only hold about 10 quarts .

So I have been watching some youtube videos on making your own . I have a partial roll of weed barrier fabric . Time to try my had at making bigger ones . I need to take the compact tractor and push some brush away so I can start a new raspberry patch in the edge of the woods . So much needs done this time of year . Some have mowed already . Mine can wait a little longer .

I still don't have the snow blower off and the mowing deck on, I better get the lead out!
This is a video of two of my Mallards taking off from the swamp on their way home.

I love your videos, wish I could do that.

I went out in The woods and built a chicken coop today
Great ventilation!

Yesterday was so nice! We saw 72 on the thermometer. Today we are back in the chiller though. My flick was out and loving the sun.

Grass is starting to really pick up and my hayfield is green again and gaining volume.

Yesterday was so nice!! We probably got over 70 here in SW North Dakota.
I didn't get a new record of eggs, the hens were 4 off though of our previous record of 28.
We have the cutest little calf!! Its so curious about everything, and it always has these funny expressions

My record was 58 from our 67 hens. Although we gave 30 chickens to some of our family so we are down... But I am gonna build the flock back up!

Ok, it really is a nice looking morning but it is cold outside.it is 30 degrees. We got a little bit of rain the last few days in light showers but not much.

I have decided SS are spoiled by nature, they hatch that way. Last night we were watching TV and one of the SS hatchlings was crying. She was looking out of the cage making a huge ruckus. Judy told me to "do something about your bird!".

I tried pushing it under the heating pad and it just popped back out and screamed more. Finally, I took it out of the cage and held it on my chest with my hand around it's back side to keep it there. It settled right down and shut up with little chirps of contentment. We both think it just wanted to be held. It has never been held before, it does not know what people are, it was an egg until 2 days ago. I promise you I do not hold my eggs and talk to them!

After sitting on me for about 45 minutes. I slipped it under the heating pad cave and it went to sleep without another complaint.

I really have no idea what it wanted. If it thinks it is going to get held ever night for the rest of it's life it is in for a huge disappointment. This time next week it will be outside living in a stock tank where no one will ever hear it!

Ralphie, I knew you were a softy at heart....
