Surviving Minnesota!

Sad news, im down to 49/50 :( i dont know what happened, looks like he just laid down and never got back up? I know this is normal for CXs sometimes, or any 2 day old chicks really, but still is a bummer. the rest are looking great though! wing feathers are coming in and they are packing on the weight already!

Brooder is ready! Temp is fun to control when husband demands brooder is outside in the insulated coop. But the temp has been ranging between 89 and 102 so hopefully the last tweak should do it.

Phew. Cleaned out the coop and the run today. Glad its done. Took out my brooder no. 1 - its plastic and the two clb were in it in the run. Now they have the coop with a brooder light to stay warm still - its gets chilly at night and they are 7 or 8 weeks old and 30's I feel is a little too chilly at night yet. I am thinking that at 50 the rest will go out to the coop, with the brooder light at night.

Tom was upset and the girls just wanted a nesting box to lay in. So all is fine again, everyone is back where they should be and happy - pretty much.

I love the smell of a clean coop.
Well done.

A ginger feathered boy has been watching me through this living room window for the last half hour. Hello tootsie. Do you know who your food and treat lady is? I'm being stalked. He's handsome and he knows it. Bugger.

Hilarious.
I went to my friend's place one day and called for her. At the sound of my voice, which is similar to hers, I got mooing, baaing, neighing, and clicking. They thought I was her and thought, "here comes the feed lady!" LOL

I wonder if there is a bar in that deer stand serving Shirley Temples and Kiddie Cocktails for you Holm...or OJ/7ups?  That's right that's your cocktail.  With a little slice of orange on the side no doubt.

I have chickens free ranging on white stuff in the great white tundra that is my home.  The lake is out.  It is time to start spring people.  Who didn't get the memo?
What a Godforsaken state.  Sometimes.  I swear.

I guess it helps keep out the riff-raff.

:gig

I know, right?
I know I'm here 'cause I love him.
Especially in these Minnesota springs.

I tried the wing feather sexing method . Seems pretty difficult . Not enough growth on most at 2 days . Down hides the feathers on mine .

I say keep checking.

Oh man. Merle Haggard passed away.

Bummer
Such a great musician.

I have it saved on my computer at home, I am doing Grandpa daycare right now, I think I am getting a migraine from it......

It's worth it. I think you have some good relationship if you call then out & they still love you. Man, the day I was a mom I thought "****, I can't wait to be a gramma!"
You're doing right.

Honest question NathanZee. He was a famous western country singer. Very reknown to those of us who are much older than you.

I heard the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the ratio last week, and realized it was the oldies station. >Drops Mic<
I feel you.

:D

I have learned to be very careful when searching for anything "chick" related. :sick

IKR? LOL

I'm proud to be an okie?! U dont know!! Do u know who Flo Rida is??

I know, but I hate them. H8er LOL

Hey, it happens to all of us. Just keep their area clean & well bedded, adding the ACV & electrolytes are in order. Some of them just don't make it, especially with CX.
On a side note, how's that plastic wound healing? The dog bite I have is somewhat problematic here.

When I did it it said one of my Roos was a girl

One misread does not invalidate a "test". Even the vent sexing is only 90%. I have missed on my CLB's that autosex. Remember the picture the guy sent me of the nice looking hen I sold him as a rooster....( dang that hurt, getting rid of a good hen and shorting my self a few bucks)......

Kloppers, While one loss is sad, it is to be expected, May that be the last one this batch!!! Good luck! ( As I reread that it does not seem as comforting or reassuring as it was meant too.. .So add some sympathy or empathy to the lines,,,thanks)

Wow, my chicks would think they are in heaven in that cozy little basket thingy...

Nathan, My "WHAT!!!" was said tongue in cheek. My kids will tell me about some band or singer they like or go to see and I will say, "I never heard of them'. and they will always reply "WHAT!! You never heard of The "upside down backwards inside out dope smoking heroin shooting Idiot's band"??? (or whatever their name is)..

Really I guess a young guy or gal would not know of him.

I saw the Grand Casino sign on I94 near Rogers as I was driving home last night Merle Haggard's picture for a concert July 2nd. I guess I will not go to that one. Bummer.

I have 3 hatchers filling rapidly with Birds this morning! I have BA's and SS's in one hatcher.

My pea comb BA's hatching in another. I must be doing it right at first glance they look like BA's!! I keep worrying the Black EE I used 2 generations back is going to pop up and It is going to scream EE. I suppose that is unreasonable because the BA has such a strong coloring genes. Now if the combs are really pea combed. I moved the eggs to a different hatcher because of the problems I was having telling the chicks apart. Not that it matters to me, as I will pick the better hens to breed back next year. I just do not want to sell someone one of them when they are expecting a BA with single comb and all. I do tell people they are just hatchery quality assuming people know they will not be SOP birds......

The CLB in that hatcher are from my Old rooster. This is the first hatch since I separated the roosters and divided the hens to try and isolate the white genes. No white yet...The group in their is not where I expect to find it.

The last hatcher has CLB's I hope and expect to find the white gene in, but it only has 6 CLB eggs in it. It has my PC/EE's in it. One of them is hatching.

I did get a new scissors after my DW's unreasonable reaction to using hers on the PC's butts. There is no rush as they are both on egg laying strike.

Ok,, Who or what is Flo rida??

I got a call from the State Vet, They are coming for my NPIP inspection Tuesday....... I am not ready and told her so, she sounded ok with it. I told her I had not even got all my spring coop cleaning done. She seemed reasonable even when I told her where I knew I was going to be deficient. Either way I should have my testing card soon even if I do not get the approved hatchery yet. It did force me to get off my butt and order my Bio Security signs. They will be here by 8pm Monday night. Nothing like cutting it close. Sort of like when I was in school with homework, wait to the last second!

And on a completely unrelated note, and I do not mean to make this sound political. I do not care which side you come down on the controversial laws on who can use what bathroom...

I am just amazed "our" governor is banning non-essential travel to Mississippi, because what CEO or governor would allow any non-essential of employees anywhere? If it is not essential 'don't go" Geez When We had employees they only traveled for "essential" stuff or they stayed at work and did their job!!! It is not the politics I am commenting on, it is the choice of the words indicating non-essential travel is allowed or encouraged by employees.... .
lau.gif
had I known this back when I worked for the state I would have taken a non-essential trip to Hawaii at least ones a year.....
