It is 11 degrees here at 8:40. Consequently I would appreciate it if those in the Mn Banana Belt Or No Dak Banana Belt would keep there temps to themselves. It is quite depressing to learn that there are places worth inhabiting!
The snow cover is complete without patches of ground showing through and no warm up forecast until next Thursday. I dare not let my chickens free range or pigeons fly until afternoon, when the hawks have probably filled their bellies. Those of you who are reporting hawks flying over your birds during summer months are likely seeing hawks which do not prey on other bird species. The primary hawks of concern for me are Goshawks and Sharp shins. the Sharp shins will kill a full grown pigeon but are too small to carry it off. They generally will not give up the kill even when approached by humans, which is a mistake. The Sharp shins are also bad around bird feeders. Kestrels due to their small size are only a threat to chicks in most cases.
Ralphie, it will be of interest to read a report of the event of your NPIP inspection.
Jerry, my experience is that those rodents are not trustworthy and endeavor to spread false hope!
