What size is the hardware cloth that is on sale?

Oh, the chicks under the hen are hatching. I think there will only be two, if I remember my candling right. I left 4 eggs under her, but thought only 2 were viable... I think, maybe it was 3. Anyway, I have one chick out, and one pipped. The chick that is out looks fine, but has little bald spots on each side of his head.

I have always separated hens with their chicks from the rest of the flock. Anyone ever leave them with the flock? Successful, or not? I'd feel so bad if the other chickens killed the chicks, but haven't decided what I am going to do with them. (Right now she is in a dog kennel, but the slats are too big for chicks.) I might just have to throw together something tomorrow for her.

Sleepyowl I only seperate hen when broody and once they have hatched out there chicks I brimg them out to the coop. I have never had a problem.

Ralphie, There is a lady that posts a list of swaps and sales on the facebook page for the Duluth Chicken Club. You might check that, and it is my understanding that the Floodwood event is not very big.

I have left them with the flock, they seem to be immediately accepted by the flock, and Momma makes sure no one messes with her babies. They do not even get close to them.

Would wrapping it with hardware wire along the bottom work? I have decided to let my chicks hatch some eggs on their own IF they do it but they should because it should come naturally - right? I am going to create a smaller coop off the back of that new coop my DNeighbor made for me. Its going to be just for brooding but the rest of the flock will be visible to the broody. Separate food and water and little nesting box per Ralphie's building plans.
