Show Cochin breeders use Artificial insemination as do commercial turkey breeders . I had one show me how . Way too much trouble .

I am not sure if it is too much trouble, but knowing how to inseminate a chicken comes under, TOO MUCH INFORMATION for me. Ranks up with my knowing how to do the duck prostate exam!

Good morning all! I just dropped DW her mom, and her grandma off at the airport. They are headed to DC for a week, so I get to stay home and Bach it and do whatever i want! Woo hoo!

Perhaps we need to do a few unannounced health and welfare checks?

So are you doing this to sex them ? That is the only reason that I know of . A few years ago some call duck breeders were selling young drakes at the sale barn . These women new this method . Sold drakes before anyone else knew . Got high prices too . Ruined the call duck market . Then quit raising them . I knew how to tell . Plus I only want meat ducks .

Oh no... My poor ducks... They r going to feel violated.... I'm going to have to go and mentaly prepare them. Hopefully in two or three months they will just accept that this is goimg to happen whether they like it or not... Lol

Devious women!! Who could rip a person off like that! Thats horrible! Its a good thing not everyone is like that!

Impatiently awaiting my son's day old Barred Rocks to show up today. (Secretly I hope they don't.) Then he will be forced to show the Speckled Sussex (my new favorites) for his 4H project. We have a quite the mix of young chicks going on in our 2 brooders. The Speckled Sussex love to dig dig dig in the shavings. The Asian blues (substitutes) love to fly or at least attempt to. My daughters Buff Orps are all calm cool and collected...I will eat a little, I will peck at the toy a little. The Rainbows (raising for father in law for meat purposes) are growing quickly and dominating the flock... if they don't look out they will be seperated and quarantined.....then again I have not liked the temperment of a Rainbow any other time we raised them.

Really? My rainbows are so mellow! They will allow me to pick them up and I've never seen them bully other hens. My rainbow rooster is a gentleman and takes good care of his part of the flock. If I HAD to find a fault it is that his size causes feather treading on the hens when he mounts them but oh well

Yep... The first time my drakes started breeding I thought they had a prolapse.... Nope... Not even close....

Chickens like to grab that . Poor drakes .
