Surviving Minnesota!

I had fishing gear stole out of my truck last year at a Motel . I have had plants dug up near the road . I no longer plant perennial flowers out front . Took the whole clump not just a start .

I was a little worried that my friday off was going to stay dull and dreary! After my coffee mishap this morning i ended up having to log in to work from home for a bit and solve some issues which was a bummer too but by the time i had things patched up the sun was shining!

I took advantage of the morning sun to go out and play with a few of my things that go bang :) i recently got a new scope for one of my scary black guns and needed to get it zeroed in. it is very rewarding to get the grouping tight and center after a few tests.

The sun was bright and warm and that means it was time to move the CXs outdoors! i pulled a tractor up between the house and the garage so i could plug in their lamps. still just a tad chilly for them to be without as they are not totally feathered. we will see what they look like when the sun goes down. they are running and playing and being happy little chicks in the grass. My piper decided she needed to stand watch for them. the hens and the cats all had to come by and see what was going on. hopefully the cheeps of the chicks dont send all my hens broody :)

And who doesnt want to hear some cheep cheep cheeping :)

Here are the Bluebells . I looked up the zone rating it says zone 3 . Not sure if you have any that far up . Hmmm well now maybe I will try some seed . These I started from a friend . They are growing wild .
My Uncle had Bluebells growing in his pasture in Houston County of Minnesota. Which is the VERY Southeast corner county-- Where my Mom grew up in the bluffs. Gorgeous gorgeous. A field of them breath-taking.

My Great Grandpa had a tractor and many otherthings stolen from him. They even dug up all my Grandmas flowers and took them.

Gosh that is so weird. But then I'm not surprised I guess. My Mom had a spot next to a swamp/bog area of the Pink Showy Lady Slipper Orchid. Our state flower. She showed them to the neighbor lady who is a sweet nice lady who runs the resort next door to them. During my college years I took some plant taxonomy and ecology classes and did a specimen count of 80 plants in that little swath of Willow and grass next to the swamp where they grew. Over the next 5 years nice neighbor resort person showed her guests the blooming orchids and they slowly disappeared and were dessimated from our property by the trespassing theives/neighbor/resort guests...whatever you want to call them. Of course they didn't grow for them and probably died because they need a fungus in the soil that is needed to break down it's nutritional requirements. Idiots.

Kloppers this just warms heart to see. They look FANTASTIC!!! Pup is cute watching chicken TV, too!

Guess what? The wind is off the lake again which means it is about 10 to 15 degrees colder here than 20 miles west. It is nippy to say the least.

Ralphie, I was visiting with a friend this morning who went to the Waverly,Ia sale and swap last weekend . He says that as far as foo foo chickens the Silkies were in high demand and high priced. If you are going to be the Foo Foo Man you might as well make it worth your while financially.

Jerry, it seems that you are hatching a lot of chicks and adding more breeds to your flock?

Anyone traveling I35 look out between Moose Lake and Barnum. There is a crossover for the MnHWY Patrol right where the Moose Horn River comes out of Eddy Lake and it is extremely difficult to see the car there until you are right next to them. You are likely safe below 75 mph, but I doubt that you will miss a personal interview if over 75?

What kind of experiences has anyone had with ordering hatching eggs off of ebay? I'd like to get some more OEs.
Anywhere from zero to 50% . Anymore than 50% is fantastic . Mine that are coming are off ebay . Here are a few things I look for . Eggs no more than 3-4 days old . If they do not have more than 2-3 hens then they may not be fresh enough . I never buy small numbers like 6 or less . Too small a chance of getting a start . If you are not real set on any one color Tractor Supply often have Old English bantams or is that Olive Eggers .
