Surviving Minnesota!

Good morning,,,,,

Erli. & BC, Grats on the Broodies.

It is the season. Coffee called last night, she has one of the turkey hens sitting on eggs. Coffee has the 2 hens left and 3 nests with eggs.

She called because the one hen has not gotten off the nest since the 16th, Coffee was worried it might starve because it was not eating. She said when she got close to the hen it just flattened out on the nest and refused to move. I think Coffee is lucky, a hen that does the pancake is so much better than the other reaction. Hopefully, the hen will stick with it and she will have poults in mid May.

She took the eggs from the other nests, the one nest had 14 eggs, Coffee candled them and 13 had blood vessels. The hen was roosting and not on the nest when she checked on them. The other nest had 4 eggs and they were all "fresh" non-incubated. Young turkeys are so fickle, they will start setting, then decide they are bored and stop. The hen had to have set for at least 14 days to see vessels.

I had Coffee put the 4 eggs back in the nest. I hope that was the right thing to do.
Coffee says she has been having a hard time getting online. Hopefully she will soon.

I have eggs that are suppose to be hatching today. I have no idea if they are or not. I have them in the second 1202. The turner in it is acting up and I do not trust it, so I decided to hatch in it. Then I am going to take it apart and fix the turner. I will have to disinfect it after I open it anyways. I hope the hatch does well, with no window to look through the suspense is killing me.

I KNOW! I have tried that. But I will try again telling him that it works. These chickens are my hobby and he has never been on board with the whole chicken stuff. Its been a year. A person needs to adjust in any relationship. If he does any more harm to Tom I may have to move to the Rapunzel building. LOL. Just kidding.

All good ideas. I am hesitant to put a stick in DH hands per his previous battle with Tom. Maybe a stick with a tennis ball glued to the end of it? Otherwise I thought about the movable (stakes in the ground with wire attached to them as a pen) grazing pens for day-time use and then back into the coop at night. Meal worms would be a good treat to get them into these areas.

Well, I wanted to be the early bird this morning. Just a challenge to be first on-line. I will try again tomorrow morning earlier.

Another cloudy day. I just tell myself that the earth is renewing itself and it needs rain and clouds and rest from the sun. It is greening up along the river. Beautiful.

Just tell him if he wants to ever have a shot at being my BFF, he will have to learn to like chickens and make up with Tom Hanks............. That should get him out there cuddling, after all everyone wants to be my BFF....

Maybe give him a pom-pom to carry...

The leaves on the trees are so great to see again, too.... BTW I get up between 5-5:30 most days so you will have to get up early to be first. I have developed old age sleep habits. I fall asleep watching TV around 8pm and am fighting to stay in bed at around 4 am.

Good morning all! I was busy this morning getting out of the house in time to deliver hatching eggs before work. I'm hoping to get some fun mixes.
Foggy here today. Wonder what the weather will hold?

We must be cut of the same cloth! I have to deliver hatching eggs today too. I have a poster up in Martie's in Monticello for chicks, a school teacher from Monticello called and wants eggs for her special needs class. I will deliver them today, no money but hopefully "getting into heaven" points.

Believe it or not I probably need a lot of those points....
