Good morning,,,,,
Erli. & BC, Grats on the Broodies.
It is the season. Coffee called last night, she has one of the turkey hens sitting on eggs. Coffee has the 2 hens left and 3 nests with eggs.
She called because the one hen has not gotten off the nest since the 16th, Coffee was worried it might starve because it was not eating. She said when she got close to the hen it just flattened out on the nest and refused to move. I think Coffee is lucky, a hen that does the pancake is so much better than the other reaction. Hopefully, the hen will stick with it and she will have poults in mid May.
She took the eggs from the other nests, the one nest had 14 eggs, Coffee candled them and 13 had blood vessels. The hen was roosting and not on the nest when she checked on them. The other nest had 4 eggs and they were all "fresh" non-incubated. Young turkeys are so fickle, they will start setting, then decide they are bored and stop. The hen had to have set for at least 14 days to see vessels.
I had Coffee put the 4 eggs back in the nest. I hope that was the right thing to do.
Coffee says she has been having a hard time getting online. Hopefully she will soon.
I have eggs that are suppose to be hatching today. I have no idea if they are or not. I have them in the second 1202. The turner in it is acting up and I do not trust it, so I decided to hatch in it. Then I am going to take it apart and fix the turner. I will have to disinfect it after I open it anyways. I hope the hatch does well, with no window to look through the suspense is killing me.
