I opened the Broody coop today. Pew. I do believe there is a level of broody hormones that creates the 'lock-down' hen. And when you make a hen set long without eggs then give her some late in the game-- well you get broody poo clean up longer than a person likes. I at this point remove the native grass wreath and just go with shavings in the nest box for easier 'lockdown poop' clean up. Will have to add more shavings and pluck more grass shoots for eating for her if she's getting up less.

we will see how it goes and see exactly what they want to learn. I'm hoping it works out so that this can be more than the kids getting to see eggs sit in the incubator and then hatch to see some cute chicks. I have no idea what the experience level is for the lead teacher in regards to chickens but I would assume closer to none than the other way.
