I agree leg color should not be a issue since they are genetically slate . That is just the barring gene at work . I stuck up for the ones wanting barring and got quite upset about it 4 years ago . Logical argument did not help . So I stepped into the project full bore . Out of respect for the nay sayers I tried every angle to get the slate color they want . Some success . Still testing ideas . I look at other breed clubs with the same problem and nobody is kicking a fuss over it . Truth is it has always been a membership vote when in question . Some would not let it happen . So I shut up and keep breeding and showing the new colors .

Such a damp gross evening outside. wind that just cuts through you! my girls all went to roost early because of it. I still had to go and grind a new batch of feed despite the weather. yuk.

Hi all. I ended up getting 12 healthy chicks, but 10 eggs didn't hatch. They were definitely alive at lockdown, so I am sure it was my incubation skills (or lack of..) Temp and humidity staying great, until they started hatching, and it went super high. I am guessing they drowned? I did not open them. I was busy, and just couldn't bring myself to make the time. I did candle them on day 23, and there was no movement.
The good news, I do have 12 new chicks to enjoy! 4 of Ralpie's EE and 8 bantam cochins.

What did the humidity go to? I am not sure it can go too high. At the NPIP school there was a guy that worked at a large hatchery, he said they bring their humidity up to 85% on last 3 days. The NPIP people said it should be over 70.


When the lady vet, JJ's Girlfriend, checked mine I was incubating and mine were running at 48% and she said I was running a little low. I have tried to get it up and until those little guys start pipping, I can't seem to get it over 50.
