Surviving Minnesota!

Good morning ralphie. Bummer on the truck. Those things can be a pain in the butt! Especially when you have to keep going back to the auto parts store.

My tractor parts FINALLY shipped yesterday! I ordered on the 10th of April. Apparently Wanita really screwed something up!

Suffice it to say, I would not be happy with Wanita... When I order parts I want them yesterday not shipped a month from yesterday..

Believe it or not, I use to have a Type A personality.....I was not a fun person for many to be around.

Morning Kloppers.

I admire you guys that know how to do mechanics like that.

I thought it was our extreme good looks and award winning personalities you admired...oh and the way we clean house, do dishes, wash clothes, keep our wife's cars filled with gas and oil. Vacuum and wash them weekly and so on...

I am have to say a few "hail Mary's" for that, even if I am protestant.

Morning everyone

Hey Everyone,
Besides being new to raising my chickens, I'm also new to gardening. LOL. Anyway, I visited a friend last week that lives on 8 acres in Mayer, MN and I noticed that her dirt was pure black and beautiful. I came home and realized my dirt here is brown, sandy, and ugly. I want to till about 0.25 of my land for a very large garden that my mother and I can work on together. I figured I would add black dirt to my land once it's cleared and tilled, but will I have to continue that every year? Also, I am composting, but since I'm new at it, to me it seems like it is taking forever. I've researched burying fish and I might do that too, since the hubs loves fishing and I don't like to eat fish, however for a garden that large, I guess I need more advice on how to make my ugly soil work for me. Thanks in advance!

Hi..

Someday your dirt will get better. Elk river composting has compost at a great price. I am close to them so I have little trucking fees but I got 22 yards for $150. I figure another 400 loads and my yard and garden will be good.

You have to pay for it? Here they will almost pay u to take it! Lol or they just spread it on peoples fields for them. We got 4 truck loads last spring and it really helps the plants.

Well Ralphie here goes. The birds are biting at Holm's due to the fact that they are forced to associate with waterfowl. Among other problems with them, the beaurocrats claim they are the primary source of the AI disease.
I anticipate that all rational Minnesotans will convert to chicken breeds with cushion, pea or rose combs as they become educated poultry keepers.

I wish that I had $1 for every time I heard someone say " at my age this is the last vehicle I will be purchasing". I would have quite an accumulated nest egg.

Rational thinking is in the process of leaving me, and even at my advanced age I am planning to start another flock of chickens. Variety is the spice of life they say, and I want some that lay white eggs. To avoid having to deal with winter comb damage I have decided to get Appenzeller Spitzhaubens. They may even be considered a foo foo breed by many, but I can deal with the ridicule. I have much experience with that, as I have been married for quite some number of years. I was smart enough to trick a younger woman into marrying me so that I would have someone to care for me at my advanced age.

Ralphie, here is something to think about. The used car dealers have preferred GM cars and trucks due to ease of repairs and less expensive parts costs, as relates to Ford and imports. In addition they generally have a better ride and better fuel economy over the years.

These are all the words of wisdom that I am allotted to disseminate at one time, so I am signing off.

EJB believe or not I have sold over half of my waterfowl. Minnesotanice got my Muscovys and some other non BYCers got the rest. I only have a Pekin hen and a pair of geese left. Although if L&M has geese today I may get some... Probably not though. I need some EE's and my sister wants Silkies. I dont want those little puff balls! I coild just as well smack a "eat me" sign on them for the hawks!

The chicks are half her size, yes they come in white (I have one) or black. The closest color to brown would be chocolate, but they are hard to find, so then it would be partridge, red, or buff. Her chicks are half breeds and I'm only selling the boys.
