hey all, the it has been too nice for me to keep up on here! Our first weekend at the farmers market was a success. 22 dozen eggs sold and 37 tomato plants. Many customers commented that they were so happy to see us back this year and were waiting for the market to start. there were several other egg sellers this year but we still sold out. without tooting my own horn, i think this speaks to the impact in quality you can see by just taking good care of your flock and engaging your customers.

there was a guy there who was hassling all of the people selling eggs going from booth to booth telling us that MN law no longer allowed us to sell eggs at the farmers market because the are classified as 'dairy products' and so on and that he was sure there would be an inspector at the market that day and he would shut us down. I know what the rules are acording to the MISA site from the MN Extension office and i am not worried. later that morning i was walking around seeing what else was selling at the market and would you guess what i see on the end of this guys table (he was selling started flowers) nothing but several cartons of eggs! what a turd! This same guy was around last summer too and was a PITA then too. just doesnt know when to shut his mouth

Saturday was also my birthday, getting older by the day! wrapped up the day with a nice motorcycle ride in the bluffs up in MCMs neck of the woods and then steak dinner and drinks with some friends. a great day all around.

I was thrilled to get my tractor parts in on friday and got my tractor all put back together. i was bummed when i took it out for the fist mow today and broke the mower belt! boooooo fortunately it sounds like the belts aren't too expensive and i should be able to get one from the local auto parts store.

OOOO and on friday afternoon i spent several hours at the elementary school talking to the kids about chickens! so much fun! AAAAND i brought one of my barred rocks to show them a chicken up close and she laid an egg right in front of a class of kintergardeners! we candled eggs they are hatching and 13 out of 14 have development! turns out my two roosters must be potent :) i am not an experienced candler and the room was far from dark so there could be some quitters but hard to say. i am not quite good enough to determine what a blood ring looks like vs a shadow of a developing chick. they were 14 or 15 days along.

My momma hen Amy took her kids out in the run for the first time, she loved it and had a dust bath, looked heavenly (if you were a chickie mom) she had a tough time getting the kids back in the coop so I had to help.

My standard blue cochins!
The frizzle is a rooster, the normal is a hen. They are about 4 months old.
I can't wait to show them this year!!

Dixie has two days left. I'm so excited for her. Hopefully by Tuesday she'll have some cheep-cheeping under her. Plucked some grass and clover again tonight. She likes those greens when she can't be out grazing.
