Surviving Minnesota!

Good Luck Kloppers.

I'm thinking at 85 degrees today I should have froze some water bottles for the founts. Crap. Too late now. Will just have to be cubes.
I also had to use cubes as I was not prepared for the 90+ we got, crazy!

I smelled the smoke around 2am..Woke me up. I did not get excited and look for fire after seeing you guys talk about it. I thought about waking the WWD and have her look, but decided not too......

I have a chick out of last weeks disastrous hatch (five live birds from 100 eggs) that is the prettiest lavender/blue color. I think I know who her mother is. Holm it is that one you said you have "only that color Easter eggers). With the Blue from Sven-son of Ole's tail she (hoping here) is beautiful. Even Judy says it is the prettiest colored chick we have ever had. I will try to get a picture today.

One thing the hatch is a lucky hatch in that they all get to eat Gamebird starter. I feed 28% gamebirds started to turkeys and Keets, If I have a chick with them it gets the better food. This lucky group is 4 chicks and one turkey.

I have decided to put Judy's grill together today. She has been complaining long enough about it still being in the box. She can blame the pick up being such a PITA for that! As of today no one has taken me up on my Craigslist barter. I was disappointed, I thought EJB would use this opportunity to get me into something other than a Ford.. BUT he has not been on much lately so maybe he just missed the post.

I have discovered the weak point in my hatching. It is the foam hatchers. I am going to have to build some new ones or buy some. I did buy some automatic humidity devices ( a bucket and hose with a float) I hope that helps maintain a more stable humidity. I also got some new setting trays for the one 1202. And that low pressure waterer Jerry told us about...

Judy was NOT happy with the purchases. I am now banned from Sam's Club, Amazon, and all internet shopping. She is so unreasonable. On the plus side, she did tell me I could build a new hatchery, if I do a few dozen things on her honeyDo list instead of fixing up the old shed for a hatchery.

I am really giving it serious thought. I am thinking a 24x32 garage package from Menards that I insulate and put a few windows in. With 2 mandoors and maybe one 5 ft door for larger items, like a new incubator that holds 3000 eggs!
Woot woot, sounds good to me! 24x32, wonderful!

Now it is picture time!!!

First the cute "blue" one. The color is not as realistic as I would like, an IPhone failure.

Here is all 5 of the survivors of the disastrous hatch of '16. I think the one just to the left of the blue one is a PC. I did not mark these as they were such a weak hatch I refused to sell any.

Same as above but shows side view of blue one.

And this was unbelievable. The other day when I got my old truck "fixed" again. I had Judy follow me to Elk River to make sure it was running ok. I brought with me tools to pull the axle and the wheel bearings incase of a problem. We stopped every couple miles so I could feel the bearings to make sure they were not getting hot. When we got to Elk River Judy wanted to go into Walmart. I picked a parking place as far away from people as I could. I parked in 4 spaces, so I could pull the axles if need be. I wanted lots of room around me...

When we came out this is what we found...The old truck is mine...There is not room to get in my passenger door.

I guess the other 400 spots around me did not appeal to the PITA.
So cute! People of walmart suck...

I have German, Norwegian and Swedish Ancestry. My sister did the blood test. Just as we've always known...but interesting to see the test.

Dad always said we were "Low German" LOL. Which can take on different meanings for sure. Always self deprecating we are. Hahaha....But generally meant low-lands or out of the mountain regions --probably Flat-landed Farming background. Plattdeutsch. And also I believe is language related. The speech is Netherlands (Dutch) with its roots.
Dad is Full-blooded German.

My mom is 3/4 Norwegian. 1/4 Swedish.
I'm half German, half Swede (as far as I know) Where did you get the DNA testing done through?

Quote: Same question, where did you get the DNA testing done through? I'd love to do that to "see" if what I've been told is correct. I do know my mom's family came to America from "Hessen" Germany. My grandma and grandpa on my dad's side were both Swede. My grandma was blond like me, I still have lighter blond hair, no gray yet, which my beautician tells me is unheard of for someone "my age", lol But my grandpa had black hair and blue eyes, he is the one i'm interested in... Here he is (with me as a kid), black hair even in his 60's and 70's, hardly any grey.

My new Cochins'!! They need names!
They are lovely! Congrats!

Ralphie, you and my husband could be brothers. Last year I told my husband I couldn't push the gas powered John Dear up and down the hill anymore as it was too heavy and pushed me off of the retaining wall, and next time I could get hurt. I was hoping he would take over that chore... I got a new present instead.

What a smart Alec he is cluckies! Lol. ;)

Hey girl! I'm glad you're back. We've missed ya!
I think my sister did the ancestry.com DNA test. $99. It was interesting. But really no surprises. I have the strawberry blonde hair. And at 46 I've found 2 grays ever. Actually none in recent years. Found them in my early 30's and none since. Weird I know. My grandpa on my moms side had red hair into his 70's with just a sprinkling of gray. Mom still red with very few grays. My dad ( the German) has been gray or white haired since late 30's.

Ralphie the blue chick is gorgeous. He has the stance of a cockerel. We'll see right? Beautiful pics.

And don't you just live the intelligence of people in parking lots. Lol. What is the matter with people???!???

I have been begging her to be a her!

The parking idiot just amazed me. I was so far from the door we almost needed to catch a bus to get to the door... Luckily, I did not need to pull the axle. I was just not sure when I parked....

And the idiot had a handicapped sticker. Maybe his Doctor told him he needed to walk more.

Ralphie, I doubt that a stern talk with the guineas will be of much use. They seem to want to do most of the noise making themselves. I have only two left and they are both males. I notice that now with no guinea hens there is much less noise and the males are much more attentive to my requests. It seems as in most animal species the males are more well behaved, and when the females are around is when the trouble starts.

The situation with that car parked so close to your truck seems likely to be the result of some smart ___ seeing you parked away from others and thinking that he would show that guy it's not that easy to separate from the idiots!

Glad to see you are making progress in identifying the source of the white Legbars. If you can succeed in developing a viable flock I anticipate they will be much in demand.

I have noticed the noisiest guineas are the hens. The males do not usually scream until the females start in with that pleasantly annoying "buuuck wheeet"...Which soon turns into a racket. I have seen Keets advertised online already SO I am thinking my guineas are punishing me for something..

I am not sure that is a CLB today..It looked wrong to me..I had put other eggs in there to hatch. I assumed it was a CLB because of the color, but I thought it was "chunky". I was just cleaning egg shells out of the hatcher and I came across a Toad egg that had hatched... So I think that is a toad, and I know nothing more about my White sports......stupid me!

I have not had a toad hatch all spring!!!

I still have hopes for white sports. As soon as my pullet starts laying eggs I will put her and the little cockerel in a pen together and hatch eggs, even if it is November! I do not want to take a chance on not getting the white ones.
