my conrad is a monster but he gets the job done. he just has most of the girls bare backed by now from his big feet

And here I was thinking I wasn't going to get any broody hens! Now I just have to get them through the next 21 days!

Ralphie I'm ordering those water bottle waterers from Amazon prime right now for their broody hutch. They kick over the plain old water bowls I tried at first

Is anyone else having troubles with the BYC app this morning? It doesn't seem to want to load any pages this is the first time I've managed to get to the thread since early this morning

So this morning one of my hands were still sitting on her nest the other one was half on half off. Not sure what she was doing. I hope they are going to stick. May swap out eggs tonight and make fresh nests. I didn't have any straw so just bedded a deep mound of wood shavings

I found that to be the case too.... Good luck on the pancakes.. How many eggs did you give each one?




Holm, Lucky will not get too large to breed, I think he is BA over Rainbows. (sounds like a Judy Garland Song)... He should be large gentle and a good protector. I am sure he would never peck at a soul, unless it was an evil soul that had it coming. Has he crowed yet?

Wow, you lost your hands and left one on a nest? Why didn't you take it to the hospital to have it reattached?

Seriously , I would leave them on the chips, When you want a hen to stay broody it seems any little change stops them. When you want to break them, nothing stops them. Having just moved them and one half on half off, I think I would leave the nest be, even if it is not perfect.

I think I created a broody duck by accident!!!
I have a Rouen duck who is constantly picked on by the other ducks and drakes, so she likes to sleep outside. Last week I started letting her sleep outside, but I've been worried about het getting killed or wandering off, so last night I put her underneath a rabbit hutch and blocked the big hole on the end where she could get out. This morning I went to let her out and she was sitting in a nest she made with some hay laying in there. So then I pit my hand in to pet her, and she "growled" at me. I then reached under her to find an egg!
So now I have created a broody duck

I have 6 under each. Just whatever was under them when I moved them plus a couple that were in another nest. I think most of them will be conrad's progeny and maybe 3-4 could be buck's (depending on what hatches)
