Surviving Minnesota!

Goodmorning lvie! Glad u had a good trip!

Why are you butchering Tom? I would put him on Craigslist for awhile and if knowone wants him then butcher him.

Well, I was thinking that two roos would be too much . . . and I have a young Cream leg bar coming up. Tom is so handsome. How would two roos survive together? There are so many roos out there - who would want another? I could be talked out of it easily.

My 2 ducks were out by the road this rainy morning . Got them back to their free range area safely . I can not find her nest . She has not went broody yet . There should be nearly 2 dozen eggs by now . That is if nothing got them . I need to start catching predators . Baby coons will be out following mama soon . Very hungry babies .

I may stop selling hatching eggs for the year . Got a pita eBay customer . Claimed 2 were smashed out of 12 . Auction was for 10 . Threatened negative feedback . Then said would wait for hatch to leave feedback . Auction clearly stated I could not guarantee a hatch . Contacted me and said 9 hatched but they were not Legbars because of color variations . Wants a refund or reshipment . I did not reply this time . I reported them for feedback extortion and blocked them from bidding . Seems they want 2 for 1 or free . It has been over 30 days so they can not leave feedback . They have 45 days to file a claim . So still not in the clear . I have been scammed into reshipping before . Trying to stop these claims . People with legitimate claims of smashed send pictures . I have had a couple over the years . Post Office literally destroyed the box . Sometimes they report hairline crack in one . I believe these . The red flag was the threat of negative feedback in the first message .

Good for you Jerry! I find selling eggs by mail to be a PITA also. They always are broken smashed or whatever. Bad hatches are the norm. I am actually waiting for a person I sold chick to the other day to call and complained they died.

When they left here their 4 year old kid was holding a chick by the neck and wing upside down. They bought 4 chicks and 3 of them were being held by kids when they left. I told them to not touch the chicks for 2 weeks or they would die. I was assured they would be fine "the kids always play with the chicks"......

It is so hard to try and stand behind the product when they are so abused or people lie to get double what they paid for. I try hard to stand behind everything, but sometimes I know I am being played.

Good morning experienced chicken and dog handlers! sigh...today is a sad day. My 14 week puppy did it and killed a chicken. He starts puppy training Saturday with a usual puppy class. I'm not sad for the chicken, not my favorite and not mine, it's the hubby's. But, I'm sad for my future struggle with getting him trained to not do this again, because my girls are precious to me! I should have watched him closely so I know it's my fault, but this chicken also got out of his run and chronically is always getting out after we have saved him many times from being chased by Olaf, the puppy. The chicken was about 5 months old, maybe not smart enough to learn to stay in his freaking run. But, it looks like Olaf had a taste of freshly killed chicken, he had blood all over his paws and he led me to the spot and I found the chicken headless. So, being shocked, I didn't punish him, just picked it up and threw it away, then crated him. What should I have done? And what should I do now? Does anyone know if there is a dog trainer around the forest lake area that can help with a situation like this? My dream is to have everyone free ranging someday in peace! Right now, all the chickens have been penned up and I really would like my girls to be able to explore more and dig up new grass instead of turning the current pen into a large dust bowl. The girls are only 3 months old, but someday I would like them to have their freedom.

What kind of dog? Not that is matters you will get them to live in harmony, eventually.....

This morning as I was getting ready to go outside, I opened the door and there stood Mom with a EE in her hand, a slimy wet one. Pearl was alongside her. She was handing me the egg. I asked her what this is as she had said last night she needed some eggs. She said Pearl was hanging her head and looking guilty, and Mom put her hand by Pearls mouth and Pearl gave her the egg....

She only gets off the deck for a couple minutes at a time as It is because of her egg eating habit. I may have to make her into a kennel dog and never let her out if this continues. I like her being free with the chickens to protect them, but this egg eating is going to be the early death of hers if it keeps up. She knows she is in the proverbial dog house today, she keeps her distance and will not look me directly in the eyes........

I do not believe dogs only have a memory of a minute or two..She knows she pooped in her hat today!

Ivie Glad your home! I was wondering if Tom Hanks lived to see your return or not....

You never know if Tom Hanks and the Creamer will get along or not. They could........or ......they might not.

EJB. I am always going on and on about Sven, Son of Ole, now it is time to bring up "Houdini Son of Ed"!

I went out to the shed this morning and Houdini was running around OUTSIDE his pen. It appears Judy forgot to shut the cover on the pen when I fed them last night and Houdini escaped. I think Houdini is 50% EE. The white ear lobes give him away. Houdini does not really like me. I should have sold him to Holms.

This is right after Houdini bit me, see how sorry he his, I can see in his eyes he did not mean to bite me...3 times.

Here you can see Houdini's coloring. He does not seem to like to be held.

Notice how he has Ed's eyes and comb! I love the comb. I am also guessing Houdini is a boy. Leather gloves are not optional when holding Houdini.
