Surviving Minnesota!

I was looking at my Creamers and creamettes tonight as it is time to start making cuts for next years breeders and this falls show birds. I am still think Andy is in the running.

I know that lighter is better....but gee I really like that one way to the left with her dark crest and rusty breast. She's sharp looking!

Next is my white sport pullet. I have 2 more white sports in the brooders no idea what they are yet.

How beautifully unique she is. Just gorgeous. She'd be a fun entry for a show.

And here is Andy, but he was shy tonight, refused to leave the coop. If someone can photo shop his head and tail together in one picture we could have a whole picture of him.

So much Attitude. Like his Chicken Wrangler Flock leader.

This cracks me up.

And a few random Pullets, showing color variation. Lighter is better as I understand it.

I understand that lighter has won more shows in England. But look at the beautiful contrasts on this pretty dark girl. She's a showstopper for me.

Here are some pictures..

But first some mushrooms I found today. I was thinking of cooking them up for Judy as I have no idea if they are edible or not.

They make a pretty picture though.

Below is my white sport rooster. He played stupid today and got his head stuck in the gate. I saved him this time.

Here is one I thought had a rose comb, but it appears to just be a deformed single comb, no points and wavy. He is headed to the soup pot.

This one is pretty nice except for a tail that forms a right angle at the backbone. He also has no crest and that could be a disqualifier.

The next one has a crest, and nice ear lobes and comb...but tail is too high of an angle and body is a tad short, but he might grow some and maybe become less proud of his tail and let it droop.. The ear lobes should whiten with age..I hope!

Those are some PRETTY birds!!! I confess I bought my Blue Cochins just because I thought they were beautiful!! (and the Golden Laced Wyandottes)...oh and the ...well you get the picture

it's kind of like buying fresh water fish over tropical salt water fish....why would you when the salt water fish are so much more colorful!!! So I say...if I am going to be having my birds be dual purpose (layers & for comical relief) then they better be pretty to look at! (EDITING!!!!! you would think at this age I could spell better)

yes......for now. If they don't start giving me some days off, I am just gonna walk! I am supposed to be retired - this working 45+ hours a week when I am supposed to be working 24 (because they won't hire anyone to fill vacant positions) is not helping me get ANY gardening/animal chores done at home!!!! ok, ok, I'm done complaining....out loud.

And please don't confuse me with the knuckle draggers that work in processing in the cities......*did I say that out loud? must use my inside voice*.... UGH!!!

I know I haven't been on this thread hardly at all, but I need to spread the word to you folks too if you don't mind....

I had to make the tough decision to start eliminating some breeds from my flock and reducing the others. With all that is going on with my son, it is becoming more and more difficult to take care of so many. He has been in and out of the ER and the hospital over the last couple of months. He was finally diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in early April. I say 'finally' because we had been seeing that something was not as it should be with him for some time before that. This means trying to get the right medication, counseling, plus lots of other outpatient care for the next few months.
So,....
If anyone is thinking about 'needing' (

) more chickens, let me know. The adult White Silkies are spoken for already, but I have a lot of bantams chicks and juvies. I am hatching a batch of Buckeyes that I don't want to keep too since I have more than enough from that rooster who sired them.
