Surviving Minnesota!

Morning Ralph. Was outside for a while watching Dixie and Loretta TV. Highly addictive watching. They are full free ranging.

I think Dixie is broody poop trained now ( except when on lockdown on the eggs. This morning a little late opening the coop and she came right out and did her number. So that's kind of nice...

Good Morning All~
All this garden talk is making me re-think my decision. This is the first year in 15 years that I have not had a veggie garden due to summer plans, KIDS ACTIVITIES, and my job. Tonight I think I am going to have to plant some container veggies to satisify my urge to garden. Not to mention the good / HEALTHY eats that come from it.

The whole step in posts with 4 foot fencing is working amazing to corral the teenage chicks. We move it every other day and they have new area to destroy.....ummm I mean forage. Late yesterday afternoon we moved it towards the overgrown pasture/woods. They had a "HAY DAY" mixing up the dead leaves and plucking the live leaves and grass. Word of warning.....you will have your work cut out for you if you expect to bring them in before nightfall.

Mother hen Amy was nasty to her orphaned children today, she wouldn't let them go into the coop at bedtime! they kept trying and she would yell and chase them out :( one got by under her radar and was snuggled up with the broody Cocoa who is sitting on 8 eggs with another week and a half to go... Cocoa seems tired she's 4 so I hope she an make it!!!! Eventually I took Amy out and put her in the part of the coop I use for brooding chicks, which normally is my side to keep supplies. It is cleaned out of everything waiting for Cocoas chicks except for a shelf of stuff. Then finally Amy's chicks went inside and I took the one that was with Cocoa and placed it with the others in a nest box. Now that it is dark enough I'll go get Amy off the shelf and put her on the roost. I never had so much trouble with a mother hen! ggrrrr.

I got my main garden finished and came up to the house and found Edna the SLW that had sour crop had died. I had drained her crop again this morning and gave her an eyedropper of olive oil and she had been slowly wandering the yard. Just too old to handle it I guess.

How would you expect an "Amy" to behave any differently?

Good for you Ralphie! Good Morning! I thought about hoping on around 7:00 and then did not.

Why is there always so much work to do? Does anyone out there have any thoughts about that? Simplify? How do you go about this?

Where is Klops?

All good questions. I am suppose to be slowing down with my advancing age.... I seem to be having more and more to do. I am currently 7 months behind on my Summer work. I am thinking about not planting my potatoes for this year. Right now I have them planted on the countertop, they have been there nearly 3 months and do not seem to be growing well. I was going to transplant them, but it might be getting too late for them. BTW when transplanting potatoes do you have to wash the green/blue powder and what looks to be fungi off them or not?

I am going to get a haircut today, I cannot handle any more spousal unit nagging on the subject. What a PITA........errr I mean Belly button...

I am trying to get my birds all back into one flock now. Except the PC's. I have fences to build, garden to till, birds to move. I am also needing to build a rooster/soup pen. The Creamers that did fine together have started fighting and beating on each other since I instigated them with the layers. I love having 50 birds free ranging the yard! It makes it look so much more farmish!

I am not sure what to do with my older Creamer Rooster. I may try to bring him into the main flock and keep a younger one for next year. Andy while still my best looking rooster in my mind is a chicken! He refuses to stand up for himself and allows the other roosters to pick on him without fighting back. Another reason I need a soup pen. I may have to build a special fence for just my potential "show" birds. I would hate to have him maimed by a sub-standard soup bone.

Well,,haircut and off to the stores...then back to sweating all day long.

Oh and::::

KLOPPERS WHERE ARE YOU?

We could add a few more to that list too... Jerry , EJB, Destiny and I know more but senior moment took those names from me..

I love it! I sat out there for a good hour just watching the kids peck and scratch the few blades of grass that were in there.... I then gave them about 2 dozen grubs that I dug up out of my garden yesterday...talk about a show!

Some pictures from tonight.

2 doms. on the roof of there thingy...

A SS in training for lapper duty,,

A PC Rooster I think.

An MA look at the cool comb..

Another PC,

A SS doing Hawk duty.

A PC comb

3 PC' in a circle

A lighter one and a darker one. The Darker one to me is a beautiful bird.. This is the one I think BC should take, but she can have a pick,,,,As long as it is a rooster! I cannot tell on them for sure. I think the darker one is because he has legs about as thick as a 2x4.

I think this is the same class as yours MNchickmom, they might be a class behind, but I cannot tell the sex yet on them. I am guessing at them by leg diameter.

Call me a "Newbie" but what does the PC and SS stand for? I am assuming the MA is your MN Australorp but I am too lazy to try and figure oout the other ones LOL!

Ivie..."simplify" and "less work" are on opposite ends of the spectrum! I found that out as well

I think simplifying life actually makes you work harder but I think it is more rewarding! Besides....the minute you slow down, you get old! I don't know about you but I plan on living forever so ....**must keep
moving**

I would like the silver one, the red if they are out of silver, try to not get the yellow one unless that is all they have, then send a complimentary re-paint gift card too...

There is a dealership in Des Moines, so you will not have to drive far to get it. Have it delivered to Princeton for me... Thanks!

My Big veggie garden was left in weeds this year too. Too much going on. I just dont have the time for it. And it's always sub parr anyways. Fighting snow shoe hares, deer pushing down the fence....blah blah blah.

How would you expect an "Amy" to behave any differently?

Let me tell you. When my two chicks leave the nest I'm going to be begging for them to spend a night or bring me their laundry or something. I think you have us all wrong, quite frankly.

Hi Jerry: Enjoy the ceremonies out there Jerry! Fun times. Leave it to you to find the berries. LOL. Love it. I have a different variety of poppy coming up. I will shoot you a picture when it blooms. It looks a little stockier or sturdier than the others I've been posting. We'll see.
