Surviving Minnesota!

Loretta Lynn is missing, Dixie was sitting in the coop. Still bick bicking away. So she's still broody at 5 weeks 2 days from hatch. We had a strong storm cell from 10-12 today. All I can think is that she got lost in the chaos of that and turned around. Dixie saw me looking around in and out of the broody coop. She came out of the big coop and sat in her nest. I told her I had to lock her in for her own safety-- can't leave the door ajar for Loretta.

My hope is she comes trapsing back tomorrow like my sister's bird did. ....fingers crossed.

They are Black Swedish x Pekin. When they feather out they either are white, or they have the color pattern of a Holstein
They were for sale,

someone is actually coming to get them tomorrow.
Oh, too bad! I mean I'm glad they got good homes, but they look adorable!

Proving once again what P.T. Barnum said long ago is still correct..

I am thinking of finding a support group so I can learn to live in peace knowing waterfowl exist in the world.....

Oh and for about a second and a half you had me with the Holstein colored ducks, that would be cool..but then I returned to my real world position on ducks.
Yeah, I think some counseling would help.

@NathanZee , do you still have those goslings?
Yes! Do you know someone who wants them?

My fingers are crossed too.

Cocoa is still setting on a couple eggs, don't think they'll hatch. Most were partially hatched or pipped and quit. I don't know what could have caused it.
I'm very bummed about it.

Picked up DS from his job and he said he saw them before he left. Around 4:30ish. I was back home at 7:30. So something happened around roost time. Not sure if Dixie is pushing away or what. I'm hoping she's taken cover and near by. I pulled Dixie off her nest and carried Her around with the last bits of daylight hoping her little bicks would bring her out. Sadie sniffed about for us... Nothing. Then I put Dixie down and she decided on the the big girl coop again. I left the Broodies coop open with feed. So if a coon comes in maybe will just feed it's belly on easy pickings like feed . In my heart I think this is an aerial predator job. Erli I feel what you felt. The promise of a young bird taken away is just so frustrating and so sad. I don't like the fact my girls maybe being stalked as well.

We made an official request for Rogers boy. We'll see if we get him. I need a roo, it is obvious. Little mr sunshine as the first graders called him always stood alert and let the others eat.... I can still see him in the brooder with my minds eye....obviously a boy...

Made a batch of soap tonight. Cracklin birch fragrance. It's a good smell. Little smokey after smell.

Good morning all:

I am hoping Loretta has found her way home, by now. Roosters really do serve a function in a flock. had Roger been there she might still be there. The sad part is many times it is the rooster that gives his life for the others.

I started this post about an hour ago. Then the WW came out here and I had to be nice (plus I was afraid she would turn me into a house mouse).. I had to drink coffee with her.
The WWD finally got up so I am free to finish the post.

I must be getting old, Cause I forgot what I was going to say...
