Well hello all my favorite chickeners. Greetings to you also Ralphie. Oh! Just kidding - you are one of the favorites too. No pouting now.
Jerryse - lookin good. That pear tree, to me, is unbelievable. I do learn alot on this thread.
Sorry about your Francis I Love Layers. Why do we get so attached so quickly?
And Bogtown - still hoping on Loretta. Why? Wishful thinking.
I don't have to mention that it has been incredibly hot! And right now it is getting incredibly dark outside. The storm is moving in. I don't like hail because of the devastating damage it can cause. I don't care if it is to a structure too much. Hail has been very good to my construction business. Often times it is heaven sent because people, who cannot afford it, need to replace their roof and with the hail - besides the deductible - the insurance company does it. I used to climb up on roofs and inspect siding and windows for damage. Met with many a claims adjuster and out of those years of doing said work only had issues with a couple being disrespectful. Used to wear a skort while on the job. LOL. There were alot of men willing to hold that ladder for me. 95 degrees out and I am working on a roof getting ready for an adjuster. Craziness. The things we do to make a buck.
I went to church this morning Ralphie. Then breakfast and then back to church for a reception for our priest who has been a priest for 40 years now.
Got home, watered the chicks - again - and tore my washing machine apart. The fuse actually melted the circut. DH says he knows how to fix that. When? I haven't asked it but just plan on going to the laundromat in Monticello tomorrow to wash clothes.
Chickens are backing off of laying. Too hot for them. Got two eggs today. Cleaned the coops yesterday. Gotta dust some more for lice and mites. I think I have an issue starting. Tomorrow will be a much better day for finishing the coops. Tom pecked me when I started cleaning. It made me quite angry. I said some choice words (didn't I just say I go to church - such a sinner - ugh) and laid him down like he was a dog. I said my choice words to him in kind of a loud voice. Too hot to deal with a cranky rooster. He only pecks me once in a while. It just occurred to me - do you think you thinks I am one of his hens. A bossy one at that. Anyway, one of the hens has laid two 'cellophane' eggs. Started calcium through the egg shells. I will pick up some at Runnings tomorrow. By the way - I bought the Purina Organic poultry feed. Don't like it. Too much dust.
Chickens love their strawberry / blueberry ice cubes and frozen grapes are a hit too on these hot days.
