Surviving Minnesota!

Here is mans best friend ratting you out .

I think I know that dog!

I have all the birds locked up today.

I am on a major bushing operation. I am going to cut back the cover the critters use to get to my birds..

My Mom lost her cat this morning. We are hoping it is just wandering, however, she said she let it out at around 5:30 am. around a quarter to 7 I saw an eagle make a low swoop though the yard towards her house. I did not have birds out so I am worried her cat might have been the target.

I am down 12 chickens and 4 guineas in the last week or so. I did an actual count today. At this rate I will not need to sell off any.

Well, time to get back to work.

I have a bunch of freeloading pullets! - 35 to be exact. They are 18 weeks old today and only 1 is laying.

@duluthralphie Sorry to hear of the potential loss of Mother's Cat. The hawks have been circling central MN.

Ralphie, I thought you said you got some Appenzeller Spitzhaubens in the last chick order?

I did!!

That explains all the crested heads! I was thinking I got too many polish. Now to sound really dumb, I cannot tell the difference between them and the polish at this age.

I can tell the Marans they are the barred ones. So now I need to figure out who the yohohama's are.

I bet that means at least one of these is not Polish!

It may be difficult to distinguish as this age, but the Polish should have much more feathering on their heads as they mature. The Spitzhaubens should be spangled as opposed to laced for the Polish? As they grow it will likely become obvious to you.

In about 5 months, @duluthralphie , you let me know how much you just love those Polish.

Bat crap crazy birds, IMO. The males I had would scream bloody murder if you touched them. I didn't mind the pullets once they had enough crest that they didn't know you were around or trying to catch them.

What's on the shopping list for next year? Naked Necks? LMBO!!!

Some people learn harder and slower than others. Polish are my FuFu bird for the city people next year. This year they all asked if I had those cute chickens with the funny hairdos...

Besides I own guineas, nothing is more bat butt crazy than a guinea!

I'm agreeing with Minnie! I spent half a day helping a friend catch her Polish. She couldn't stand them anymore and sold her flock. They were pretty nutso! I've heard the Appenzellers can fly as well as pidgeons.

I bet they meant the other FuFu, Silkies! I am getting rid of my Blacks and Blues that are left, come and get 'em!!! They have toe defects but pet people don't care ;) Oh, and I have some Whites left, and they are actually pretty decent quality, a kid in Dodge County took Grand Champion with some he got from me.

I had Brabanters one year, they were similar to Polish. Our Hamburgs would fly up 25-30 into trees, but they were easy to handle when you caught them. I actually miss having those.

Well I dried my cucumber seeds outside yesterday . Got them indoors before the chipmunks found them . I will let then finish drying indoors . Trying to make a tomato cross to improve my pink cherry . Need tougher skins as they crack easily . I need to try to cross my Niwot fall bearing black raspberry to my Autumn Britten . Niwot needs better flavor IMO . Wet weather has made it difficult . Prepping flowers the night before and then pollinating a day later but then it rains .

Ralphie you need to try the old wooden snap type rat traps on those chipmunks . My Grandson's mower was a easy fix . Water droplets in the carb bowl .

BC I found a big patch of ghost flowers at the lake . I took a pic but it is still on my dumb phone .
