Surviving Minnesota!

Visited the newly opened Fleet Farm in Hermantown today. I can say it was not what I anticipated. The pricing is like most other retail stores and no real competition to the actual feed stores or to Menards for that matter. They do have a large store with a good selection, and I suppose that is what contributes to their popularity?

Had rain overnight and early morning . 1/2 inch or so . Areas I worked over with the box scraper are really soft . So I need to wait before I go at it again . Cooled off with the cold front for a few days . I postponed the roofing job . Got more materials to figure . I may have a lead on some steel roofing at a better price than Menard's . I found a factory direct place on Craig's list about a hour away . I will check them out this week . Fried sunfish fillets . Bought fresh green beans at the local farmers market and fixed them . Made a new batch of veggies in marinade . Mixed it up a little and added cream instead of salad oil . Turned out very good . Had cucumber , red onion, tomato , ripe bell pepper and a small summer squash in the mix .

Jerry they asked about her beard. And I am not worried about it. As I've told them she will just have to lay some eggs and look beautiful in my yard. She's doing one already. I feel privileged to have your birds. Please know that. As their adult feathers are coming in I'm seeing some beautiful feathering coming in. I know you are tinkering genetics with your birds and that's okay for me. We are not doing fairs or shows. I don't have the time. They intrigue me but they are more just for our backyard viewing pleasure.

Good Morning Everyone!

Thanks for letting me win today!

I am not sure if Fleetfarm is all that cheap. It has a large selection of what I want as you say. As far as price Menard's beats them on the items they both have. I can't get a Plucker at Menard's though. Fleetfarm has a 470ish dollar plucker I am going to be getting before my Camp Day. I will buy bird seed there but it is cheaper at Menard's.

I am a little worried what they will do to Running's in Monticello. Not that it is my concern I just like the stuff from Running's. Even though they sell many of the same items things a lot of Runnings things seem to have better quality. However, I am more of a price than quality shopper though so it should not matter. I never in my life would have thought I spent so much time in Monticello. It was a little "nothing" town when I was young, now it is a great place to shop has everything I need except a Menards.

Besides going to Monticello gives me a chance to check up on Ivie and what she is doing, I wave every time I go by.

Morning . No rain today . I went to the sale barn Friday evening . Did not buy much and nothing live . Got a good deal on three self feeders for dogs / chickens 25 pound size . $5 for all three .In good condition .

My aunts turkey is sick. Any suggestions?

I cannot tell you what is wrong. Turkey heads are so great because of the way they tell you what is up with the turkey. Pale flushed heads are either a sick or depressed turkey. (yeah turkeys get depressed)

A blue head tells you he is bothered or upset (angry) When the head is blue keep kids away. A red her is normal and as it gets redder he is getting madder. Its like having one of those thumb color things to tell a person mood.

I would check for blood flow or impacted crop to start with. What is the poop like? I am almost wondering if the turkey does not just want to be left alone if the color changes in front of you that fast. Maybe people around is depressing it.

A turkey does not need another turkey, really, they become friends with anything, mainly birds. However, I would worry if another one died. I know I tease you guys mercifulness about your ducks and geese, but you should know a turkey with ducks in not a good idea, there are so many diseases a duck carries that a turkey will become deathly ill over.

The people at the poultry labs are very anti-turkeys and ducks together. In the latter days of the last turkey was there any swelling in the head or dark areas?
