Surviving Minnesota!

Same though!! I found the same barred rock that was broody and I gave the eggs to a different hen sitting on eggs. Thinking back to it I haven't seen her for a 2 weeks either! So I guess more chicks

They just dont know whats good for them! At least she isnt agressive towards me! But she has made boise at me that I didnt know birds could make lol! She sounds like a bird of prey lol!

Dixie has been broody for 2 weeks I think... This is her 3rd? But she got off the best this AM and came up to the house which is a sign she's trying not to be broody...? Yeah the silkies are broody machines.

Ralphie~ Tell Judy to stay low and drink lots of fluids....don't dare spill a single drop of the really expensive and potent antibiotic. My daughter had C-Diff when she was 3. Expect a phone call from the State of MN Medical Office as well. Asking you all sorts of invasive questions. They claim they are trying to get to the bottom of where the C-Diff originated. We ended up doing 2 rounds of nasty tasting really expensive antibiotics....it took about 6 weeks total.

Congrats Minnie & Holms on the State Fair.

Good Luck Layers with the new birds.

As for my birds....they are in the dog house....this morning I found 2 cracked eggs under the roost bars. They had been doing so well....for one whole week all the eggs were laid in the nest box. Little Stinkers were just too lazy to waddle to the nest boxes because the said eggs were warm at 7am when I did my morning check.

Have fun, Jerry,

Morning all, I am cleaning again all day, Getting nothing done outside...

I should be doing chicken work and wrench turning too.

Oh well, one day at a time...

I still have no internet and cannot have a repairman here until the house is disinfected...sigh

Well when I went and did chores today I noticed I was dtill missing a Buckeye pullet... GUESS WHERE I FOUND HER?? She is broody as heck on a nest of eggs! Its to late for babies!! But she has been gone for alnost two weeks so shes gonna get her way I guess. Darn chickens... I thought she just gave me the slip when I was looking around for her but I guess not.

So my Buckeyes who hasnt hardly layed a dozen eggs is broody

Oh Dear!!! If you didn't have such inviting places for them to brood, maybe you wouldn't have her hiding

I have a feeling there are some eggs being hidden this past week. I need to mow and then search all the little weedy spots for some. I know a couple of hens go laying in the most out of the way spots they can find.
I have a hatch almost done coming out right now, and I am thinking I am crazy for hatching so late, but I needed to try some replacements for some I lost in the heat. Yes, I am crazy, there is no doubt. It is good I have such a warm spot for them in the brooder house.

Seriously, I am just glad you found her!

Congratulations Minnie on the fair. Holm...your farm is just so much fun with it's antics. LOL. I can imagine the hidey holes those birds find...and don't say you haven't been thoroughly warned about Guineas!

May I just say, again, I enjoy our little slice of the US. Minnesota folks:
