Surviving Minnesota!

We won our first game today!! We could've won by a lot more but our other outside hitter was out with a rib out of place, and we had to replace her with a not so good player... We won the 1st match 25-22, lost the second 18-25, and won the third 15-9!
Our second match isn't very good most of the times due to our back row that we have that match

Congrats on Junior's proud stand. Always nice to hear about local boys doing good! We could use a stalwart roo like Junior ourselves. We live in the migratory path near Hawk's Ridge (aptly named) at the Western tip of Lake Superior. Migration season starts shortly.

Question: Does anyone else have problems with soft shell eggs? I have 1 or 2 brown eggs per week for the last 3 weeks coming in with soft shell or thin membrane only. My entire flock is comprised of pullets new to laying. Only been laying for 3 weeks. They have access to self feeding calcium in 2 areas of the coop and up until Sunday they were on feed from feed store. I followed directions on pullet pellets until 16 weeks then moved to layer mash at that time. Sunday we mixed our own feed (including calcium) per the concentrate instructions to a T. Please tell me this is most likely just a new pullet problem and they will get the kinks worked out???
I had one pullet who just could not get it worked out, sadly she died at 1, I think she layed internally, just couldn't get it working... I had other soft eggs here and there, but normally hard. Right now though, my Golden comet lays many soft eggs, I think it is due to the long days though as she is always trying to lay 2 eggs a day, just does not have enough calcium though. I don't think they should breed them to lay so much. I won't be getting her type again.
My computer needed a doctor so its been gone for two days. This is the best picture of spider that I have taken thus far. Those are orange legs and that yellow / black part is the body. Sometimes it looks lime green. I have looked and not found anything yet. But then I haven't had the computer for two days. I think those other spider pictures scared the hard drive and it was hiding.
To this I say:

You gotta love those little sisters! ;)
I wish the bottom one was standing as nice as the top. You can take both of them, you know? I don't know as there is a limit as to how many to take in one Lot. I have seen as many as 5 in just a pullet or cockerel lot, which is silly, I think. Two is cool but more than that, you are asking a judge to select your birds for you.
Are you entering as a Junior or in Open at Hutch?

I like the idea of having the judge select my birds!!! You think I could get them out here an judge them all in advance.

Welcome to the thread. If you posted here before I forgot, at my age forgetting helps a lot.

Holm I am going to ask MNChinkMn the color to use for my fingernail polish, she has the tone they like down.

I am headed to Menards for some supplies as soon as I finish my coffee. My FAVORITE son in law just called and he is coming down to help me for the next 4 days. I can so use his help. I have gotten so far behind with Judy's illness.

I have decided to enter Ed, Edwina and Edna in the old trio at hutch. I am hoping to have an young trio. I have the young cockerel but need to pick out two hens. You think the judge would notice my EE/PC crosses?

I am going to try and get a trio of CLB's and White sports, knowing they will not be judged, but I would like to have them seen.

I have Dominique roosters picked out, I am having trouble on the one roosters comb. I know the words " free from hollow center" but have no idea if the one has a hollow comb or not. How hollow? Any dip in the center? Front? whole thing?

MY largest nicest rooster has a small "dip" on the front of the comb, but it could just be the points are higher and nicely formed. This will be a learning experience! Will they notice the birds are from Urich's line? My tails might be too low, When I worry about them being too high on the other breeds....

I am not sure I have the "concave sweep" on the back they might be too flat backed. This is something to get me worrying every little detail over, I can see it now.

Oh and I need to call for my reagent so I can test the young birds.

How young is too young to show for pullets and cockerels?

How about guineas? How do you know if you have a MFF trio or a FFF or MMM trio? I think I will skip Guineas. they will never become tame. To me a tame guinea is one that stays within 50 feet of me.

I think I need you to come here two days a week and give me tips Minnie.....

You should take some of my boys! We get lots of larger hawks and bald eagles here.
I decided to sleep in 20 minutes, I wish I could sleep on the bus but I have geometry

I decided to go to the New Salem Sale, I would rather get rid of those extra roosters right now, and buy some cheap hens to just have over the winter.
Can any of you wing sex? If so I have some chicks I want to sex to see if I want to take them to the sale.
