Surviving Minnesota!

BogtownChick - Good, successful thread you started. Last we chatted, I had Buff Orps and Barred Rocks. Added Buff Silkies, Easter Eggers (which you get when you order Ameraucanas...around here anyway) a Maran, Black Australorps. No complaints about any of them. Two new coops added. Bigger. Better. Electricity. Flock went from 5 to 18 in two years. DD started the GOAT talk about a year ago. I probably don't need to elaborate on how that conversation goes.

I LoveLayers - Our only two roosters are Buff Silkies, little bantam dudes in pants. They don't scare anyone. Might make an eagle or hawk giggle, in fact. Your offer sounds tempting.

DuluthRalphie - Your memory checks out just fine. I haven't posted to this thread before, but the few posts I have were on other Minneosta boards where you were. And in response to your postulating that Junior attempted Suicide by Eagle...uhmm...No. I'm an old school romantic who believes that chivalry is not dead. Junior is a right, proper gentleman. Did what any fella should do in that situation. BogtownChick called this one correctly.

Hi! I just want to start following this thread. I'm originally from Fargo, but my family all lives around Jamestown and Larimore. Right now I live on 10 acres outside of Barnesville on the MN side! I'd still love to be a part of this thread considering my ND roots and the proximity to ND. I have 3 lavender Orpingtons and 2 black copper maran mixes. I'm hoping to get more when I go to the Hutchinson show this October! My copper maran pullet, Esther, laid her first little brown egg today! If anyone know of someone who may want or wants a Lavender Orp cockerel let me know! He's 5 months old, beautiful coloring, and a second place show winner (only to his brother). I'd love to keep him but I can't have 2 Roos with my 3 pullets. Im a first time chicken owner so I'd like to get some input on weather and everything else. Last winter I had a too who had bad frostbite on his comb and waddles and lost a few toe nails, this year I'm really hoping to avoid that! My sisters boyfriend made me a new coop so hopefully that'll help a lot. :)

This is a picture of the cockerel, during the beginning of July. He's much more mature now and has beautiful coloring, full feathers, and deep red large comb and waddles. If you want to see new pictures or are interested contact me anytime. :)

Well welcome there beribeth. We are friendly, hop on! We talk about anything you can think of on here. Well almost. We have one guy that almost gets double demerits for his sometime conversations. He isn't too bad but you do have to watch out for him a little. You could possible meet him in Hutchinson. Maybe.

Glad to have you join us.

The DH headed up to Aitkin this afternoon. Watch out up there! I am in a really funky mood. I hate moods. I guess I will sew into the night. It will keep me out of trouble. And that is an exciting Friday night. You must be having alot of fun because no one is posting out here. Thats okay. My hard drive is still resting after the upsetting turmoil this past week.

Wouldn't Ralphie have noticed if he had birds having an issue? I lean toward the nutritional side. Are these their first chickens?
Not necessarily, you can have asymptomatic carriers in your flock. However, the other person who got those birds could have picked it up somewhere too if they have birds from other than ralphie.

My computer got a nice clean up today by a nice retired IBMer friend. It's amazing how he knows what to do to make it go faster. This is an 8 year old notebook. I should probably get a new computer.

Ivie: sometimes I have moods too. I get a bit spunky on here and probably say more than I should. Welcome Beribeth. Layers is from NoDak. And theres some pretty nice folk from NoDak IMHO.

Minnie: you have a plethera of information on chickens. I'm so glad you are on here. my goodness. I think it's just plain hard to absorb other people's chicken problems. And some people just don't want to research on their own either. TBH I would not bother a breeder after I've had normal chicks for 2 months. IDK....

Welcome Beritbeth- I've been known to be 'snarky'

but we're all pretty good here.

I have either computer issues or probably it's me most likely. I need some youngster to help and the ones I know are too far away to help me.

Ralphie is NPIP certified I think so if he had had chicks with Merek's it would have shown up on his chickens blood work wouldn't it?
