Now that the win is secured I can type my morning message.
Rooster taming not going so well. They are not tame on day 2. However, there is improvement only one rooster truly hates me and bit me yesterday. It was one of the Doms I have picked to go to Hutch. I may be making a substitution with him. As soon as I open his cage he comes flying out the door, I have all I can do to catch him. He hates his cage. He hates me, and he never shuts up all he does is B-scratch about it.
I gave him a room with a view, he can see outside to the pasture, the others cannot even see outdoors. I talk nice to him and pet him, he refuses the meal worms as do the other roosters.
EJB, I do not know how I missed the one PC cockerel I have in the cage when I was looking for one for you. He looks just like the picture of the PC rooster in the SOP book. The markings are amazing on him. The only thing is his dusty toes and shanks, but that is allowed from what I read. The "reddish brown" on the wing is amazing on him. With the greens and blacks shimmering. I am so impressed with him, and he does not bite, which is a bonus. I have him with a SS right now, but he will be getting his own room today. The SS is kind of a PITA and gets him too riled up. I also do not want him to get in a fight with the SS and get damaged in anyway. One impressive bird, if I do say so myself. Like I said before my problem will be finding pullets to match him with. (Not that this will be the one I give you) My plans on that are in the air I have three other PC cockerels that are not bad either, just are not this one. I have not decided whether to breed Ed again or use this guy next year. It is nice to have options.
I am still trying to figure out what they mean by "hollow" on a rose comb. The one Dom to me has a nice comb but it is not flat in the front. But I do not think I would call it hollow. I cannot get a good picture of it. The Camera will just not pick up the dish part.
MnChickMom. I think one of my hens must have been the carrier of the Sprigs your rooster has. And the imaginary zit on the other. I am not finding anything on my roosters, I am even going over them with a magnifying glass. Nothing nada. Just to be safe, I am going to change out my SS hens this next year. I know there is a chance I will still have it from the daughters but there is a chance I will not also. I have not decided whether I will use King George or one I will be showing, for next years breeding. . Some of it depends on what the judges say in Hutch.
The Spitzhauben are really looking good too. I like that Mohawk type crest they have. So different from the Polish and their mops. It will be interesting to see what their adult plumage is like.
My Son in law is here. still sleeping, lazy kid! He has been helping me this weekend, it is amazing what can get done when there is a someone under 40 helping! I am so grateful for his help. He said he will come back mid week for a day or two, I think I will catch up on all the stuff I did not get done if he does.
I am moving all my brooder pens up on to platforms. That way I can look in on the chicks/birds easier and I can clean the floors under and around them better. Also I will be able to disinfect the floors more often than I do now. If I have the platform 3 ft high with the cages on top of that I can also have storage under the cages. I am thinking of putting them on wheels though, which will take away the storage, but allow me to move them easier. Always something to do.
I have also all but decided to get barn cats. So Holms keep me in mind. I do not want wild cats though. I want some I can get close to and pet if I want without losing a finger. Rodents beware. Even those fancy Latin named ones.
Oh, and I have puffballs drying in the dehydrator!!! Winter goodies!
