Surviving Minnesota!

Now that I have assured the win I can type.

I am Grandpa again! We got another Grand daughter at around 10:30 last night. We have not been down to see her yet. She is number 5! Judy is pretty upset about not being able to go see her, but she will not go until she is 100%. My son wants me to come today, I might. I woke up with a sore throat and cold starting. I will not give baby a virus as a birthday present. I will see how it is this afternoon. It could just be allergies and morning throat. (Yea, us old people get stuff like that). Holms and Layers see what you have to look forward too? ( In addition to the joys of reading glasses).

I am going through the SOP book again. I know I should not worry about little things, but I found a spot on the beak of one of the Dom Roosters. I am also worried my Dom Hens may have too long of back and not enough rise at the tail.

I am looking at the PC's and thinking they maybe better colored than I thought. Which is good. Ivie was over yesterday and commented on another PC rooster that is not in "Show Boot Camp" after reading the SOP's again. He might join the boot camp today.

Finally Fufu's. Judy snapped these late yesterday afternoon. She had not seen them in quite a while. She asked how they can see. I told her some of the suggestions you guys gave, she has decided we need to give them all pony tails with some small rubber bands she has.....

I have made then a cage about 30 inches off the ground so they can start to get use to me, there is no way they can see me when they are on the floor. These could be my first truly indoor birds. I hope Fufu's work out.

I have no idea if this is my best Fufu or worse, I just reached in and grabbed the closest one. I am not even sure of it's sex or how to tell them apart.
Jerry called it. The other thing is the pointy feathers indicate males, the females are rounded feathers and fit more like a ball on their head.

Hey Klops - RALPHIE wants TWO Right Ralphie? ESPECIALLY since these little honeys have been raised right next to the chickies. Great rodent hunters Ralphie. When should I go get them for you?
I am looking for a friend for Jerome. Since his little sister was killed by the coons, he has been a lonely fella. There are some down by Plainview that are barn cats that need homes, I was going to go down and grab one to see if he will accept it. I will be leery about if it will be okay around chickens though. If that doesn't work out for me to go there, I might swing over and get one from you @KlopKlop I just don't want a white one. I don't care on the sex of it.

I've got 3 grey and 2 beige. If they turn out like their mamas litter the grey are boys the beige are girls.

Looks like a cockerel

I spend most the day in the hospital visiting the new grand girl...and her parents.

When I finally got home I went out to feed the birds. Everything went fine until I got to the cage with the worlds best looking Dominique in it. Then things fell apart.

I reached in to hold him and he pecked me again. He pecked me hard and deep. I have a 3/4 inch crater in the back of my hand. Blood gushed from the wound.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if this pecker of hands, peck the hands of a judge, the score could go down, Correct?

So how do I stop the pecker from pecking? When he first pecked me I grab his neck and head and was going to hold him down and make him submit to me. Then I thought, maybe this one does not respond well to threats. So I held the pecking critter lovingly to my chest. I reached up to pet him and console him while whispering comforting words to the nasty Pecking critter. It did not respond to love.

Matter of fact, it pecked me again. This bird is truly beautiful but he has no compassion for humans, he hates us.

I even gave him a treat after all this. Thinking by rewarding him he would learn what a great guy I am an stop pecking me. What can I do? I am running out of ideas.

I have an old tongue twister running through my mind...

Peter picked a peck of pickled peppers, how many pecks of pickled peppers did Peter pick?

Except it is changing to:

Ralphie was pecked by a pecker soon to be pickled , How many pecks of pickles will be packed by pickling this pecker?

I am dreaming of eating him regardless of his looks. I am begging for help to break this could be pickled pecker? I hate his pecking! really I do!

BTW when he is not pecking he sits in his cage and growls. He actually growls like a mad dog? I am thinking I may never break him of his bad habits, they are getting worse instead of better. I have a feeling if I hang a "Beware of chicken " sign on the cage, I will be ridden out of Hutch on a rail....HELP!!!

Go out and carry the jerk upside down by his legs every day and see what happens. I never knew Doms could be that way. I thought my Buck boys were jerks for beating each other up this year, but at least they don't do anything to me. However, I was moving my sweet little bantam Faverolle girls to a bigger, freshly bedded pen and one grabbed ahold of my arm and left a bruise. She was not sweet.
As far as jerks in the show cage, a judge may pass one by and only judge what he sees without handling, which never plays to your favor. They don't like those kinds of birds (I know from clerking and talking with them about that), but they will try to handle every bird unless they are soaking wet and look like they were just pulled from a puddle in a poopy pasture or if they are covered in parasites.

Your on for tomorrow. We will see if the original challengers can battle for the prize of being in first place.

So did you you hold the little gipper? And were her siblings there? And then, is she healthy? And is mama doing well?
