Surviving Minnesota!

@Bogtown Chick it is hard to pass by those Welsummer roosters, they are so handsome with the red, gold and black playing with each other in their plumage. They are such wonderful temperament birds too. That is why I couldn't bring myself to part with them this year like I had thought about since many were getting white feathers popping out in the tail or wings on the males.

Jamie Matt's is having another auction for your choice of LF blue, black or splash breeding pair. Most likely not, spent a lot on the previous birds. I'll see if he ships chicks in the spring.
Got to ride tonight, Sneaks has definitely finally healed from this spring. I may put her back in barrel racing and ranch versatility training. I will sew though since she's 14. I would love to have one of my grandpa's big sorrel geldings for barrels even though he's 20!

Well I think I've had extreme luck on my side getting the birds I have got this year. I'm just tickled. I'm glad fate handed me that Welsummer roo instead of Roger's chick...honestly. He's going to be my pride in joy in the yard that's for sure. I tried to get a picture of him tonight crowing on my deck rail...but as I approached him he got nervous and jumped down. Ha. He's a bit afraid of us...and I'm inclined to let him be instead of 'socializing' him. Roger would take runs at us once in a while. This guy here if he runs away...I'm going to be okay with it. He's a baby though yet...hard to say when he gets everything figured out what he'll do I suppose. Glad to hear they are usually friendly birds. He and Patsy Cline are pretty talkative. That I'll say. They really talk to me when I come home or see me.

I'm going to be all over him this winter with bag balm...see if we cant save some of those tips and wattles. I have no idea how this winter will pan out. Last year was so mild. I'm hoping for the same honestly. Bring on the snow...but let it be mild. That first year with Roger, my NH was not alot of fun. -20F almost everday for 6 months. (That was the year that alot of the lakes still had ice on opening fishing. ) But I was new then too...didn't know what was going to happen. We'll watch out for this boy. I have a few do's and don'ts for wintering those guys under my belt. I'll do my best by him Minnie.

Just thought I would share a few pics of this heifer. I REALLY like this calf. In fact I think she and a few other calves are gonna be kept back for breeding next summer. Nice big frames on a few of these heifers!

Morning all.

I bit the lobster and lived!

Last night I went out and took care of the show chickens, Judy had done the others but is afraid to open the cages incase one gets loose. Even the Dom pullets are becoming less mean, if not friendly. The one did not lay an egg yesterday. She is such a disappointment now. The Dom cockerels were standoffish and them some.

The PC cockerels are not friendly either but they can be handled.

Today is deer episode follow-up. Dealing with insurance agents is clearly woman's work, but Judy is refusing because she says " I have to go back to work today, you can do it, you have nothing else to do".

I know now what she thinks of all the stuff I do here during the day, I am hurt. I may have to spend the day in bed or my recliner trying to deal with her attitude. I may be so distraught the deer stuff is not handled.

In addition, I have to go get our cow today. ALL BY MYSELF!

Some other nice heifers. Although idk if the white one will stay or go. Her mom is one of the best cows. She is very docile and when she calves I can go in and do anything with the calf and she will just stand there and watch me. But she still is a great mom and raises a nice calf!

I like the white one, why would you not keep her?

White calves get sold separate at auctions cuz they bring a lower price then other cows. It's a hassle selling just one calf all by themselves. Although with the bull we r using there is a chance she will have a grey or off black calf from her.

Look at these white calves! The white one I think is quite impressive! The peachy colored calves mom is older and I don't think she produces enough milk anymore so she will be going to the sales barn.

I guess I got rid of the pics of the peachy colored calf. I'll have to get some!
