Surviving Minnesota!

My younger sister asked me of she could have some feathers from my chickens for a art project. I told her yes, but they don't drop feathers on command

Lucky for her --and your chickens-- it's molting season...?

Does anybody use a solar powered coop light? I'm going to try and supplement lighting in the coop for a few extra months and am on the search for an easy method. Otherwise I thought about hanging up a small strand of x-mas lights. And it's best to add light in the morning, correct?

Oh that motherhood! I remember it well. Some of the fondest days of my life.

I HATE Menards.

I just got off the phone with them to order a Ceiling Grid System for my little bathroom project. I have one of my rebate cards waiting to reduce the cost of it all. I want everything to be bundled up and ready for me to pick up tomorrow. I want to save time and have them pick it and put it together. I pick it up and then pay for it. After calling back because I was accidently hung up on, and then waiting and listening in the background while somebody else got sub par service. I finally got the person back on the phone who then took my order. They then tell me I would need to pay in full now before they would get it ready for me. I told them I'd like to pay tomorrow with cash and use my rebate card.

No Go.
I said Thanks sarcastically and hung up. What has happened to good service at this s-show of a business? And they've got you by the cajones because they ARE cheaper than other places. You get what you pay for folks.

I have a love hate relationship with Menards also.

I have found a visit to the store manager helps. Or finding old people type employees. The kids there seem to be just biding time until they are through school or can get a better job. Those that are not biding time have a a big scarlet "L" on their foreheads.

If you order online will they pack it for you in advance? Or can you pay for it, then return it and re-buy it once you get there to use your refunds?

Last Friday Judy and I bought a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff. Then we saw the 11% rebate was on, we went in and asked if we had to return everything and buy it again. They said "Nope" and gave us a form to get a rebate on the stuff we bought before the rebate!..

I've tried ordering on-line before. It won't let me pick a store or something that drives me nutso. I think I'm missing some not so intuitive piece when I try to order on-line. They would have bundled it up and let me pay by CC over the phone, and he suggested that I return it then rebuy. I think it's a dumb strategy. Like I'm wasting my time and breath talking to him on the phone to not show up. But I suppose they get hun-yucks that have ruined it for the rest of us.

I have had luck with the 11%. Seems my timing for wanting to do things runs into the 11%. I have $29 card that will bring this $91 bill down to $62. Woot. But as the Menards strategy of keeping unskilled and probably low paid labor I will have to pick it all out on my own. Not a major deal....just time is my precious commodity tomorrow. And when I walk into that place I feel lost for days until I find what I'm looking for. And God forbid if I interrupt Saturday Chit-Chat at the Kiosks.

Deep Breath....

Sigh....

Mo3 sorry to here the little guy is sick.

My little guy is having surgery today so I have to drive him back and forth from the clinic. He is having Laze-x? Guess I spelled that wrong. He surgery is the same time as my Granddaughters bus gets home from school. So I have to take him to surgery and back while his wife watches kids.

I have been weighing solar lights also. My problem is finding a solar light with a timer on it. The other concern I have is the strength of the battery and battery life in the banana belt. Sometimes it gets chilly here and I wonder if the batteries would have any life left in them in the AM when I need the light.

We have solar lights along our walkway, and they do not stay on all that long the batteries seem dead in hours.

I've noticed my solar lights around the house get eroded after a year. That's a concern of mine as I don't want to spend the money on a decent solar set-up and it's garbage the next year. I did see some with timers on Amazon.

They have Lasik down to a perfection - he'll love it.

Menards, Home Depot, Lowes.....one and the same in my opinion. We bought a new lawn mower last year and learned they don't honor military discounts for Cub Cadets. This was after we were told they did. Now this could have something to do with their Cub Cadet seller agreement or whatever you want to call it, but I was pretty irritated. I told DH we're getting a John Deere from the dealership next time.

I love my Lasik!. Been about...8, 9 years. Best money spent. Ever.

MinnesotaNice. I could have told you John Deere, dealership, second hand (if you can find one) it doesnt matter. They hold their value and your lawn does not get scalped and look choppy. Their floating decks make it look like green velvet out there.

Right Ralphie?

I know it's not the solar lights you are talking about. But I have one solar motion sensor light on the front step of my coop. I got it at Walmart. Under $20. Takes two D Batteries. I've had it for 4 years and I LOVE it. I just put in 3rd set of D batteries. In those 4 years. And I'm talking working when it's -20 - -30F. I couldn't get over it. Because we know what that kind of cold does to battery power. I might have lucked out on that. It clicks on with Deer passing the coop. When it's really windy and leaves and twigs are flying by. When I go down to the coop each night at roost time to tuck the birds in. And hopefully if a predator passes it flicks on to give them a scare in the middle of the night.

I've also looked at solar lights for shed lighting....which I think you guys are working on. You might do well to do a small investment if chicken keeping is going to be long term for you. Or at least at the mid-level price range.

I know you probably forgot but I am partial to RED not green. One of the problems with the Cub Cadets today is their lack of red color. What kind of color is yellow for equipment?
