Surviving Minnesota!

Good morning! As expected both of the extra jumbo eggs laid yesterday were double yokers. I will have to be sure to watch that when setting eggs this Spring, no extra jumbo eggs. Twins in chickens just don't work out very well.

Watch as DH put a hole in his thumb nail with a red hot needle to relieve the pressure from all the blood underneath of the nail. A trap went off unexpectedly and caught the top of his thumb in it. Too bad it is his right hand also! He is hurting enough that it woke him up while sleeping last night. Too proud to see the doc though so it was a home cure today.

I had to do that once. My dad actually did it to me. He went to far and hit my bone though

Found some shaggy mane mushrooms . Saw a buck and a red fox this morning . Lots of dew so delayed roof work . Going to move a tree stand first and evening hunt . Got busted by the buck . New scrape at 10 yards . Buck came in at a trot while I was looking the other way . I started to get ready and he smelled the branch looking up right at me . So I need to move . I did not know the scrape was there as I came in the dark . I may not work much today . Oh and more hen of the woods ready to pick .

Feels like 51˚ but is very windy fro the Southeast, which means I have stuff blowing around again. I got some picking up done yesterday but not everything, of course. I won't be putting any sheets of covering up on anything today either. Tomorrow the Sun is supposed to shine and temps be good. In fact, we appear to have a good week or so coming.

It does sure feel like Halloween weather. I haven't been out with kids in a couple of years and sort of miss it, but not the up until 3am stretches of making costumes at the last minute. I look forward to making them for grandkids, but I will happily wait on that until our kids are a bit older ;)

Well... Apparently my horse got cut by wire. I've got to go 'fix' her now. Will try and get pictures along with some more info

We can eat our own candy lol

Misty and gross here. glad I don't need to be outside. Stayed in town after work for a hair cut (not real happy with it) and went to to the store for some part. going to make a shooting saddle for hunting this weekend. Unfortunately DW walked the dogs right through the low area i will hunt tonight... my fault for not telling her to stay out of there i suppose. hopefully that doesn't make too much stink down there. THe girls run around here all the time and the deer still come in the back so im not too worried. I'm excited and nervous for my first hunt. about as ready as i can be.

So first some kid knocked my phone out of my hand and shattered my screen!

Then it was my last VB practice of the year, even though I tried so hard this year I didn't get on varsity as a freshman.

So I get home and my dad said my horse, pictured above got cut by some wire and we were going to go disinfect it. No big deal is what I thought.
So I went into the milking area to get some vetericyn, and I hear a high pitched squeal from a rabbit. Look over and one of the barn cats is holding a baby bunny.** I grabbed the cat and kicked I mean literally kicked it out of the barn.
Then I grabbed the bunny, and it's missing a leg.
So we put it in a cage in the chicken coop.
We then go to check my horse, her leg is swollen about 3x average size, she has a deep cut on her shoulder and by where her neck ties into her body. And also under her hock. Her competitive career is done now.
The cats almost got another bunny after this too. **we let our rabbits run around the yard and they get food and water underneath my chicken coop

Sorry your horse was hurt, looks painful.

If your cat is a barn cat and you expect it to eat mice naturally it'll eat bunnies too. Don't hurt the cat. If you were nice to it you can teach it easily the rabbits are yours, just like my cats know the chickens and chicks are mine they don't go near them.

Good morning!

Only went out with 4 kids trick or treating last night. I am now old enough that I have a child who decided she was too old for trick or treating and aged out. Not sure how I feel about all of this having really big kids and not just mid size kids and littles. Welcoming their independence but missing the dependence at the same time. Life stages I guess. Good thing I teach preschool so still get some of the dependence during working hours 3 days a week and then go home to independencey! Maybe the perfect balance.

No chicken news besides telling the neighbor last night that I think I love my chickens as much as she loves her cows. She really loves her cows too! Calves over 200 every year I think and she knows every cow and calf pair when she walks in the pasture. Pretty amazing if you ask me.
