Surviving Minnesota!

Sylvia had a bloody comb yesterday. I suppose I should give her an inspection. Just sort of scabs though. No head feathers drenched. I suppose Junior is trying to seal the deal. Young cockerels.... *sigh. But if I had to rate him from when roger was young this bird is probably 10 x less a son of a gun than what Rog was at that age. And Roger was pretty good. This boy is a nice rooster. We pet him on the roosts -- DS with bright orange on-- nothing. Roger hated red or orange like a bull. Junior is more nervous when we walk in the coop though. He does that shrieks call a lot. Bicks and bocks the whole time I'm in the coop tucking in hens on the roost. He's a talker. Patsy the welsummer hen talks a lot too. Fun to see their differences.

Morning all! Getting settled in wth some coffee. Heard polling lines were very long today, glad I voted early. I am so ready for this election to be over. I hope and pray that people will put this all behind us.... So many abrasive issues driving people apart...

I am taking a chickens approach.... Sun comes up, go out and get to scratching and come home when the sun goes down :) no fuss no muss

Morning .Sprinkling rain here . Should clear off by 11 . Slept later today . Colder weather coming for the weekend . Weather has been great .

Good Morning Chickeners . . . .

About roosters - Reggie is a 'darling.' I mentioned to the DH (who only had experiences with Tom Hanks) that Reggie is really, really nice and surprisingly, he told me he knew that. What?

Apparently DH had to enter the run to blow out a line for the sprinkler system and he told me that Reggie was just fine with that. Isn't amazing the different a rooster can make. I still stop to visit Tom once in a while. He is institutionalized and that is a good way for Tom to be. As long as he does not have access to hurt anyone he is deemed to have a good life. But their granddaughter thinks he should go into the soup pot because he starts to crow every single morning at 4 a.m. They love him. Good combination.

I am currently unsupervised the possibilities are endless . Sibling Tuesday for DW . She will be gone till about 1 . If you hear a loud screech that means I am in for it for whatever .

Yep, nuttiest bird I've got! Can't touch her with a ten foot stick, and if you do........you'll hear about it....Her name is Dove.
I keep telling people, those white eggers are b**sh** crazy birds! They can't be as bad as Polish though. OMG, they scream bloody murder when you touch them! LOL

Every bad story I hear about those Leghorns, I chose to get one less chick! I'm down to two now. The lady has some RIR's, too. Maybe I'll supplement with one or two of them although I've heard they're not the friendliest birds either. I figure I'd give the Leghorns a shot and see how I like them. When my Grandpa was a kid, they had 500 or so chickens - White Leghorns. Can you imagine the crazy in that barn?

Totally different personalities on those two breeds. Welsummers for temperament are my number one pick, even over Buckeyes, to be honest. Especially after this year and seeing my Bucks going after each other and other breeds in the pasture. Welsummers will scrap when I first turn the older boys out together, but overall, they are the most laid back birds in the flock. I have never had one even cluck at me for picking up a hen, never had one even bat an eye at me. They are good with my females and don't cause a raucous ever. Their only drawback is the comb and wattles in winter for me.
