Surviving Minnesota!

DH is done with work at two. Nobody in town or on the roads anyways. Time to get people back to the safety of their homes. I went out to the highway this morning, called my boss from the car and turned around. It's still going strong out there. Chickens are in the coop. They don't even want to deal with the Run either. Some snow has blown through the top vented area that I leave open. So theres a skin of snow on their hay in the run. I will have to take a rake and turn it a bit. I brought them down some spaghetti, older mango, kale, cabbage. They looked at it and turned and went back in the coop. LOL. Oh boy, they're not liking our Minnesota weather for sure.

Wow. How much snow did you end up getting?

Okay got up from the computer and looked outside. I can barely make out the coop. Wind is blowing a lot of snow around...but it's very much coming down. A foot on the ground with 16" to 24" drifts on my deck. (It always rolls down from my roof onto the deck-- of course.

Festal is still a brand I see around, or at least it was carried buy ShurFine stores last I checked.  It gave the pies a green look after cooked though and weren't very appetizing to many we tried to sell pies to in a 4-H fund raiser.  I froze plenty last year for us from my Winter Deluxe I grew from Seed Savers.  I wonder if you could find that variety through Seed Savers Exchange if you wanted them?  Saving seeds from pumpkins is easy so long as you keep the sub-varieties separated far enough.  There are three subs of squash, so keeping those apart from the same is the big thing, then putting a cloth or something over the flowers you want to keep seed from.

Good luck on the sausage!

We had rain and thunder going through this morning, blowing like crazy.  I am glad I got everyone locked in last night.  My Wellies and NH boys would be hurting for certain when the temp drops tonight if I hadn't.  They will all go in the hoop, once I have it winterized for them.

Maybe festal wasn't the brand.... you can't get it anymore whatever it was. Hmmm now I'm going to have to ponder

Bogtown same with my chickens!! Inside on the roost!! the plastic on the run isn't all the way to the top in front so snow has gotten in and the rest of the plastic has snow stuck to it so it's dark. Even treats won't bring them out.

We have over a foot of snow, I can't tell how much anymore. Branches are breaking off trees.
My hoop style green house imploded but popped back up after I pushed the snow off.

I just looked at the temps for this weekend up there and Ralphie - sideways - really? I fixed up the water font and the heat lamp (put inside a metal frame hanging flower pot holder) because my chicks are wooses when I am gone - I am sure of it. Too Cold Too Fast. Truly wish I was there. DH seems to think it will be gone by the time I get home.
