im off as well and the morning has started with a tradgedy... IM OUT OF COFFEE!!! also got a call from work and ended up logging in to my laptop to put out some fires.

On the bright side i picked up 2 fresh eggs when i was out doing morning chores and made a nice over easy breakfast, as fresh as it gets.


Today i will be running a temporary power line from the house to the garage, adding a light switch and taking down my extension cords for the lights and garage openers. good times!

While I should also be off I am subbing and teaching 6th grade today. Just finished teaching them about equivalent division problems and finding unknown fractions or decimals in an equation. Earlier I enlightened them on how pronouns and nouns can be used as adjectives. Really the English language can be so confusing! Try explaining to preschoolers why knife sounds like it starts with the letter N but really starts with a K. Teacher problems!

I am being so lazy today...


I saw all the eggs some of you are getting and decided my chickens are slackers!

I have had lights on them for a week or more and still no eggs (or many). I have dozens sitting here so it is not like I need more eggs. I just want them to produce more. Lazy Bums!

I should be outside but I am sitting here drinking coffee and watching the clock, No birds are getting out until noon. They have to learn to lay eggs in the nest boxes!


I will not be on tomorrow morning. I have to go to Green Bay tomorrow and pick up another incubator and hatcher. Long drive. I was thinking of stopping and seeing relatives along the way, but that would just make the day longer, so I am unsure.

Good morning to all of you chickeners. Ralphie, I did not find your prose to be of rant quality in my opinion. It seemed like a gentle way to offer information, although I suspect Jerry to be correct in his thought that the other party is not a good candidate for educational enlightenment.

That is a nice basket of eggs which were presented by Mom of many, as I have not found an egg in a couple weeks. I will buy eggs until such time as the daylight hours stimulate egg laying.

I have made arrangements to add White, Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas and Silver, Chamois and Gold Appenzeller Spitzhauben to the herd next spring.
I will need to add runs and coop space for the birds this spring.

I have done a rant again....I am bad... Well,, not that bad.

I just get a kick out of people that say a bird cannot be an Easter Egger. Jerry, correct me if I am wrong, please.

An Easter Egger has no common trait other than laying a colored egg (Green, olive or blue) correct?

I know lots think they have either tufts or muffs black or green legs but those are not required are they?


There is no SOP for an EE. I just get on a high horse when people go nuts and "declare that is no EE"

I tried to take cool pictures of my PC rooster yesterday like Jerry takes. I failed. Badly. I wanted to get their colors and shapes captured. I got shadows and ugly looking birds. Way uglier than they are... Holm bring a camera when you show up here for your turkeys. ( along with my cats). Speaking of cats, Judy is making me build a little covered bed so they do not get cold....Geesh they are barn cats... Someone talk sense to her.....

Well for the record...despite her wide knowledge of EE's and Ameraucanas which I've had the privilege on another thread. She is wrong, I would say. There is no beard on that cockerel...but...I see Willow legs. And I know it's possible for EE's to have willow legs as I've had one. And I've also had an EE without a beard. So that's what I know which may be a small percentage more than her. And I'm guessing the bird is as advertised. Ralphie...don't you remember Jerry warning us about this particular member while we were mushroom foraging? LOL

so, my two equine kids decided to take an UNSUPERVISED walk yesterday!

Apparently the gate was frozen when I went out to feed early in the am so when I closed it on the way out, the lock did not engage. Good thing my DH was home to hear them stampeding off! I got a frantic call at work to come help round them up! We caught up with them about a mile and a half down a back forestry road. The walk back with two tired horses in tow was unpleasant but the upside was ...I got my 10,000 steps in for the day!

EJB, If my Appletinniis do well, I should have the Silver spangled ones for you too. You could have a full set..


BC and Jerry, I forget what I talk about yesterday let alone a month or two ago........ MY oldshiemers is getting worser I think...... Ask Judy.... I think that's my wife's name... Now if I could just remember her face.

You sound like my DH. Only eats if I make him lunch. I ask if he needs a lunch and answers if you want me to eat.
